Ladies, it’s unhealthy to wear panties to bed!

Except when you are having your monthly period, you have no business wearing pants to bed!
What reasons do doctors have for this ‘prescription’? These ones…
Physicians say the female genital needs to ‘breathe’ in order to maintain its pH balance and prevent fungi and odour. So, going to bed without your pants on will aerate your nether region.
Family Physician, Dr. Grace Obong, says during the day, women wear a variety of panties and tight outfits that hardly allow their privates to breathe. She says though it’s advisable and absolutely preferable to wear cotton panties, many women still opt for polyester panties, with the attendant heating up of the genital area while the day lasts.
For those who may not like to go to sleep without having pants on, Obong recommends wearing of boxers or pyjamas.
Experts at womenshealth.gov say the vagina normally has a balance of mostly “good” bacteria and fewer “harmful” bacteria. However, a condition, called bacterial vaginosis, develops when the balance changes. This may lead to abnormal vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odour, while some women may complain of a strong fish-like odour, especially after sex.
Other symptoms may include burning when urinating, itching around the outside of the vagina, and irritation; while some women with bacterial vaginosis have no symptoms at all,” Obong adds.
Wearing panties to bed can lead to too much moist in the female genital area, and this can lead to vaginal yeast infection, most commonly due to the fungus Candida albicans.
Again, Certified Sexuality Counselor, Evelyn Resh, says, “I do not recommend that women wear underwear to bed. Taking a break from underwear for the eight or so hours that you’re asleep gives you an opportunity to ‘air-out’ down there! Best to have an underwear-free zone while sleeping.”
And while yeast infection is not a sexually transmitted illness, physicians say some men will develop symptoms such as itching and a rash on the penis after having sexual contact with an infected partner.
The online physician, Dr. Mehmet Oz, counsels, “It’s time to go au naturel. You don’t want it to be so moist down there. Let it dry out a little bit.” The reason for this timely advice, Oz says, is because the underpants can abrade on your skin a little bit, and can cause pimples. And you don’t want that.

President Buhari Receives Captured Boko Haram Flag

The Nigerian Army on Friday night in Abuja hosted President Muhammadu Buhari to Guards Brigade Regimental Dinner and presented to him the captured Boko Haram flag.
The flag was handed over to the President by the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. -Gen. Lucky Irabor .
Men of the Operation Lafiya Dole operating in the North East had successfully captured “Camp Zero,” the strongest enclave of Boko Haram terrorists sect, in Sambisa Forest.
Irabor, had disclosed that about 1,240 suspected Boko Haram terrorists were arrested during a mop-up operation by troops inside the Sambisa forest.
While receiving the flag, President Buhari challenged the armed forces on the need to continue to ensure the survival of Nigeria as a geo-political entity despite what he described as “political madness” being exhibited in some parts of the country.
According to him, it is duty bound for the army to ensure the sustenance of peaceful co-existence among the over 250 ethnic groups across the country.
“We will do our best to build the national institutions in the country. All these political madness in the North East, the Niger Delta or in the East should not be allowed to cause division or any form of tension in the country. There are 250 ethnic groups, so keeping Nigeria one is a task that must be done, even for your personal reason you must make sure this country remains united and stronger,’’ he said.
President Buhari, who narrated his early military life in Abeokuta and subsequent redeployment to Zaire (now Congo), said he was almost killed while on duty even before enjoying his first salary as an officer.
The president, therefore, stated that he was conversant with the problems of the military having spent over 25 years in the service.
He recalled how his refusal to adhere to an advice from the IMF and World Bank to devalue the Naira and increase prices of fuel and flour, as a military Head of State, led to his removal.
“I refused and gave my reasons and the next thing I knew I was removed and detained for three and half years. As a civilian president I will do my best and I’m telling you all these because you are part of the leadership of this great country and God willing we will remain great,” Buhari said.
In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai urged the officers and men of the Guards Brigade to always maintain the courage and discipline they are known for in 2017 and beyond.
He assured that the military would continue their onslaught in the North East, and would not rest in mopping up of the remnants of the Boko Haram insurgents.
Buratai reassured that the Nigerian Army would remain apolitical in carrying out its duties to the nation.
The regimental dinner night, which was organized to mark the end of drilling year of the Presidential Brigade of Guards, afforded the officers of the brigade to socialize with their commanders.
The highlight of the occasion was the inauguration of the PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) Gymnasium at the Scorpion Mess in W.U. Bassey Cantonment by the President.
The event also witnessed the presentation of Souvenirs, Scorpion Magazine and Compendium of Guards Brigade as well as the conducts of the band by the President.
The Commander, Brigade of Guards, Brig.-Gen. Musa Yusuf , delivered the vote of thanks at the occasion which was attended by notable personalities including the representative of Senate President, Sen. Leader, Ali Ndume and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammed Bello.
Others are the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno , Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police
Ibrahim Idris , Presidential aides among others.

Revealed: Seized 47 Suvs, 100 Motorcycles Bought For Jonathan’s Campaign

It was revealed yesterday that the 47 Sports Utility Vehicles and 100 motorcycles the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently recovered from a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power were bought for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign in the 2015 general election.
The sum of N1.5 billion with which the vehicles were acquired was allegedly sourced from the diverted N27 billion insurance premium of deceased workers of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
All the vehicles were said to have been paid for by the former Permanent Secretary, Dr. Godknows Igali, to aid the campaign efforts of the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation in the build-up to the presidential election.
The EFCC was said to have intercepted the vehicles and motorcycles after an alarm was raised by an artisan.
An EFCC source said yesterday that there was “overwhelming evidence” against the former Perm Sec.
Another source, who spoke in confidence, said the 47 vehicles were seized from some secret locations where Igali had kept them.
More than 100 motorcycles parked at a facility in Mabushi Area of Abuja were also confiscated by the EFCC.
The confiscated items include SUVs, Toyota Coaster buses, Toyota Hilux trucks and 16-seater buses.
The source said: “Igali had allegedly secured the hefty heist in well-guarded premises in an upscale neighbourhood of Abuja.
“But luck ran out on him when an artisan called to fix a faulty utility vehicle became curious over the avalanche of the state of the art vehicles parked in the premises and tipped off the EFCC.
“The commission immediately commenced discreet investigation.
“In the course of investigation, it discovered that all the vehicles were supplied by Dilly Motors at the instance of Igali.”
The source claimed that about N1.5 billion paid for the vehicles was allegedly sourced from the diverted N27 billion insurance premium of deceased workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
The cash was allegedly laundered by Igali through Baseworth Insurance Brokers in order to cover his track.
The source added: “It was initially difficult to determine the source of the funds with which the vehicles were purchased as it did not come directly from Igali’s account.
“But a breakthrough came as the EFCC stumbled on evidence of a curious payment to Dilly Motors from the account of Baseworth Insurance Brokers Limited, a company that was under investigation in another case of alleged diversion of N27 billion insurance premium of deceased staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
“In one of the transfers, N300 million was paid to Dilly Moors from the account of Baseworth Insurance Brokers.
“Operatives of the Commission were curious to determine the service which Dilly Motors rendered to Baseworth Insurance Brokers to warrant payment.
“Dilly Motors, on interrogation, allegedly admitted that the N300 million was part of the N1.5 billion paid by Igali for the purchase of vehicles for the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation to prosecute the 2015 general election.
“Igali was earlier this year arrested by the Commission and made a statement after which he was released on administrative bail.”
At press time, it was learnt that the EFCC was finalising plans to arraign Igali in court.
A top EFCC source said: “We have substantial evidence against Igali. He is going to face trial any moment from now.
“In profiling Igali, our detectives discovered that he is a kinsman of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and he assisted the Gooodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation with vehicles by diverting public funds for such illegality.
“Actually, Igali had made useful statement and our detectives have spent the last five to six months to conduct diligent investigation.
“There is a prima facie case against him. It is left for the ex-Permanent Secretary to prove his innocence in court.”
The Nation had exclusively reported on October 10 that the EFCC had frozen N6,811,846,443.05 in the accounts of some companies belonging to a cousin to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd.
The frozen cash was part of the N27,188,232,208.20 benefits of the deceased employees of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), which were diverted.
Out of the amount, the sum of N951,637,223 only deducted FIRS VAT and WHY was paid through Diamond Bank and UBA Plc for direct credit to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
About N26,236,594,986 was looted by some top officials of the former Jonathan government, including the purchase of vehicles for the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation.
These highlights were contained in the report of EFCC on the diversion of the benefits of dead PHCN workers.
The EFCC said in part: “Sometimes in 2014, above named (names withheld) conspired amongst themselves and used Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd to divert N27,188,232,208.20 from the Federal Government of Nigeria through the BPE.
“The said account was originally approved to be released to Great Nigeria Insurance Plc (GNIP) as Group Premium Insurance (death and accident) claim to the next of kin of ex-PHCN staff who died in service and those that suffered incapacitation from accidents.
“Both covert and overt investigation aimed at determining the veracity of the information was discretely carried out into the Insurance Brokers Ltd domiciled with Skye Bank, Unity Bank and Keystone Bank.
“Efforts were also made to locate, identify and profile the operation of the company at both their Kaduna and Lagos offices.
The totality of these efforts led to the following findings:
“That the FGN decided to privatise the PHCN through BPE. The proceeds from sales were remitted to the OAGF.
“That the Federal Ministry of Power and the Federal Ministry of Labour in a bid to resolve a dispute emanating from the staff of the PHCN over unpaid insurance claims diverted the matter to BPE who advised that the claim be paid from the proceeds of the privatised PHCN.”
The EFCC gave the details of how the fraud was perpetrated by convincing the National Council on Privatization (NCP) to approve the disbursement of the funds.
The report added: “That the National Council on Privatization (NCP) during its third meeting held on 4th August 2014, amongst others, recommended the release of N27,188,232,208.20 to Great Nigeria Insurance Plc as settlement of insurance claim which the President approved.
“Based on the above, on the 10th December 2014, the sum of N26,236,594,986 was released to Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd of J415 Ibadan Street, Kabba road, Kaduna .
“The principal proprietor of the company is yet to be arrested and the sum of N951,637,223 only deducted FIRS VAT and WHY was paid through Diamond Bank and UBA Plc for direct credit to FIRS.”
The EFCC said it has frozen about N6.8 billion in more than nine accounts and seized a N585 million property from a former Chief of Staff.
It said: “Bestworth Insurance Brokers Limited maintains a corporate standard current Ac No. 1771645118 with Skye Bank Plc; Ac No. 0025251085; 0025860162; 0025872242 with Unity Bank and Ac. No 1040199787, 10052599665, 05102001142, 107102000361; 10440359482 with Keystone Bank Plc. An order has been obtained from a court of competent jurisdiction to freeze these accounts to aid recovery.
“Further investigation disclosed that the insurance broker distributed these funds to various companies including a company controlled by a cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan into whose account the sum of N2.5 billion was paid.
“This Commission has traced and frozen the sum of N2 billion in the accounts at S/No (f) above in a related case being investigated involving the company while the suspect was charged to court.
“Similarly, the sum of N1 billion paid in four instalments was traced to Kebna Studios and Communication Nigeria Ltd controlled by a former DG of BPE.
“The sum of N300 million was equally traced to Dilly Motors Ltd who produced documents that indicated delivery of vehicles to the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation worth more than N1.5 billion and that part of these included the said money traced to the company.
“Investigation has established a direct link between the recovered vehicles and the N300 million paid to Dilly Motors Ltd.
“Meanwhile, a credit balance of N2,004,846,443.05 traced to Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd Skye Bank Acct No: 17711645118 has been frozen. Forfeiture proceedings shall be initiated for the purpose of full recovery.
“Other transfers made to accounts of Bestworth Insurance Brokers Ltd domiciled with Unity Bank Plc were also traced and the sum of N2,507,000,00 found in the accounts were frozen for possible recovery.
“The investigation is yet to be concluded.
“The development is however worrisome as persons entrusted with the keys to the nation’s treasury conspired amongst themselves to loot hapless citizens and the families of the deceased employees of PHCN of their much needed benefits.”

Keke Palmer opens up about being a Victim of Sexual Abuse

Keke Palmer is getting real with fans about her life growing up.
In a Facebook Live chat this week, the 23-year-old actress was asked about why she chose to share her story in her upcoming book, I Don’t Belong to You: Quiet the Noise and Find Your Voice .
The question led Keke to open up about overcoming some tough beginnings with the help of her family’s strength and faith.
Keke Palmer says
“I decided to write a book because I felt like so much of my life was similar to others. So many people watch my career and sit back and think they can’t do the things I can do because they think I came from a privileged lifestyle. I’m trying to let y’all know immediately, I’ve been through some s–t. Some real sh–t, ya’ll. I didn’t come from glitter and glow. It really was Godsent how everything happened for [me and my family],” she went on. “When we got [to California], the first couple of weeks, I got a Kmart commercial. People really thought I was born into this industry. They felt like it was handed to me. But that was the gag, and that’s the gag that my family, we all have. At the end of the day, it wasn’t handed to me. At the end of the day, the cards were against me. At the end of the day, I did grow up on Section 8. At the end of the day, I have experienced abuse, sexual abuse. I have experienced turmoil in my family. We have a strong bond but we’ve been through some sh–t. The point is not to hide those things, because when we hide those things we stop other people from being able to envision that life for themselves. Somebody may have gotten abused, somebody may have been put down, somebody mama wasn’t in their life, somebody daddy wasn’t in their life – whatever it could have been. If they don’t see that anybody else has gone through that, and people keep acting as though they live these perfect lives, then it really doesn’t allow other people to be inspired and motivated to go beyond their current realities. It leaves them in a position of thinking they’re not good enough or this life wasn’t offered to them to be good. The reality is it doesn’t matter where you’re from, it doesn’t matter who you are, it doesn’t matter what your daddy did to you or what your mama did to you, it matters what you do with yourself. And that is the reality.”

2017 prophecies aisha buhari apostle suleiman
muhammadu buhari
As 2016 gradually winds to an end, many Nigerian religious leaders have been churning out prophecies that are meant to be earth-shaking.
One of such prophecies state that the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, risks being poisoned by “Aso Rock forces.”
According to the President of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle John Suleman, in his 50 prophecies for 2017, Aisha must be wary for her life.
As reported by Daily Post and other online media, Suleman, in a statement issued by his Public Communications Advisor, Phrank Shaibu, said some ‘forces’ in Aso Rock were planning to poison Aisha and that the same ‘forces’ will alienate vice-president Yemi Osinbajo.
The prophecy states that the “Aso Villa forces” will make attempts to remove Osinbajo from office, but they won’t succeed.

72-year-old man caught with human skull in Osun says “Na mistake”

A 72-year-old man arrested in Iwo, Osun state for removing a human skull from a cemetery says he made a mistake.
Idris Ajao claimed to be a bricklayer, but said a herbalist Tajudeen Jawesola had assigned him to exhume skulls from graves in the cemetery in return for N10,000.
Police, acting on a tipoff, deployed around the cemetery and arrested him with a skull.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Fimihan Adeoye said police detectives got the hint about the atrocities of Ajao and trailed him until he was caught with the skull.
Ajao told Daily Trust, “Mistake has no master.”
“It was Jawesola that asked me to get the human skull for him. Everybody knows Jawesola to be herbalist and he wanted to use the human skull to do his work. He said he would give me N10, 000. I should not have listened to him. It is a mistake”.
Police are still on the trail for Jawesola.

Buhari, Nnamdi Kanu, Plane Crash Top 2017 Prophesies Of Bishop Jatau [See LIST]

The presiding Bishop of Faith Hill Prophetic Assembly Worldwide Abuja Bishop Emmanuel Jatau has listed events that will take place in 2017 in his 77 prophesies.
The Bishop in his new prophesy has asked Nigerians and the world at large to pray against many negative occurrences including death, sickness, plane crash, loss of jobs, betrayal among many others.
Jatau in his new prophesy said most of the people the minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi helped will destroy his relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017.
Below are some of his prophesies for 2017:
1. President Buhari’s love and positive plans for Nigeria has not changed, indeed it will increase in the year 2017. Let us therefore join hands to pray for him and the nation. Oil prices will rise in the year 2017. Government revenue will increase in the year 2017.
2. Chinese and Indian businessmen and their collaborators in the federal Inland Revenue service (FIRS) against remittances of money worth billions to federal government (FG) will be exposed in the year 2017. Church banners etc. shall be subjected to taxation to reduce environmental pollution. This is one of the many taxes that will be introduced by FG in the year 2017.
3. FG will print enough naira in the year 2017 in order to settle domestic debts.
4. In the year 2017, president Buhari will assemble another set of gifted economists that will introduce atypical policies that will put our economy on healthy and sustainable growth path.
5. Buhari should watch and pray against evils of 2016 (budget padding, terrorism, sabotage, betrayal etc.) because they will rear their ugly heads again in the year 2017.
6. Two presidential pilots (Buhari's personal pilots) shall be removed and replaced in the year 2017. Let none of them lobby to be retained because I see trouble after.
7. I see two additional airports soon in Abuja. Six state governments will copy these. Most of the aircraft accidents shall be happening during the weekends I implore our engineers to loathe negligence and our pilots to be conscientious and prayerful. DANA, AZMAN and ARIK airlines should guard against sabotage between the months of January and June 2017. Let us pray against air disasters particularly in African countries in the year 2017.
8. Let us pray against the death of a popular comedian in Nigerian that may facilitate the death of other comedians.
9. 2017 is a year women will be made to answer for bribery charges more than ever before. Some women presidents and prime ministers will be removed from office through the ballot box, impeachment etc. in the year 2017. Many women working with Buhari will be removed and replaced
10. Other forests in the six geopolitical zone, particularly in the north-east, south-south and south-east should be guarded to truncate (occupation of these forests) the alliance between Al-Shabab and boko haram.
11. Let us help the government of Kaduna state with prayers as he confronts the moneybags being used by Satan to foment trouble in the state. These corruptly rich politicians are employing the services of boko haram fighters to destabilise the state.
12. Some deputy governors in Nigeria will take over from their governors in the year 2017.
13. Nnamdi Kanu may be hospitalized in the early part of the year 2017 if he is not prayerful. Pray that his people do not abandon him
14. Nigerian senior military officers, musicians and pastors should avoid group flights in the year 2017.
15. Saraki, Melaye and other loyalists of the former shall betray each other in the year 2017. Ben Bruce, Dino Melaye and their cohort should beware of the year 2017. I see them destroyed politically except they are prayerful.
16. Treasury crackers and looters in Nigeria (Senators, Governors, politicians, contractors etc.) will jubilate because of their pyrrhic victory against Magu, but God will bring them to judgement through another person sooner than they expect.
17. The appointment of an incorruptible Chief Justice from the southern part of Nigeria shall create a credible judiciary from the year 2017. He will be in the mould of Falana and Fawehinmi (of blessed memory).
18. Lawyers defending prominent Nigerians with corruption charges shall take ill en masse in the year 2017 as a punishment from God. I advise our lawyers to be wary of whom to defend.
19. For refusing to adopt treasury single account (TSA), the sovereign God is sending a government that will temporarily scrap national assembly (NASS) and do the needful. Indeed there is a new government on the way that will strengthen institutions and prevent human excesses in the police, NASS, judiciary etc. in Nigeria and in Africa.
20. President Goodluck Jonathan will be persuaded to contest, and will be defrauded. The fraudsters shall prefer a new party that has Sokoto state governor and Donald Duke on the driver’s seat. Let Goodluck beware of these con men.
21. The people Amaechi helped and established in the APC may destroy his relationship with Mr President in the year 2017/2018 and eventually his political fortune. Let him watch and pray against those that want to bite the finger that fed them.
22. Let us pray against two bomb attacks in Abuja between the months of February and June 2017. It is advised that security at the eastern, northern and western part of Abuja be made watertight. Let us pray against bombs attacks that can destroy rail lines, rail stations, airports, motor parks and seaports in Nigeria and in other nations in the year 2017.
23. The chief of army staff (COAS) shall be elevated in the year 2017 after a fierce battle from those against his elevation.
24. Buhari may be within the country more in the year 2017/2018 as a result of ill health, and this will make Osinbajo to be acting more for the president. Once again pray for good health for the president. Pray for governors Masari and El-rufai against medical evacuation because I see them hurried abroad for medical treatment in the year 2017.
25. Presidents, governors and ministers who served from Shagari to OBJ era should pray against spirit of death in their families in the year 2017.
26. Nigeria should pray against the death of the following people in the year 2017: Two former governors of northeast, northwest, north central as well as two former deputy governors, two senators and former ministers of same regions. Let their counterparts in the southern and eastern part of the country pray against accidents. Let the sitting governors of Benue, Nasarawa and Sokoto states beware of chartered flights. The governors of Taraba, Plateau, Gombe and Calabar states should guard against blood diseases while their counterparts in Ekiti, Kaduna and Niger states should be careful with polo sport, women and occultism.
27. The following states (Adamawa, Anambra, Bauchi, Benue, Delta, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Kaduna, Kogi, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Sokoto and Taraba) should pray against weeping and wailing in the year 2017 for their current as well as former political and military leaders.
28. Henry Okah will regain freedom soon like Ibori and they will receive a warm reception from states in the Niger Delta region. Indeed attempts at persuading president Buhari to inviting the duo to visit with him in the Aso villa will be made by some of his party members (for their own selfish political gain). The perceived enemies of the duo should be ready to be paid back in their own coin (Whoever reads, let him understand).
29. I see the Gambian president negotiating for immunity against prosecution before stepping aside.
30. I see Isis leaving Syria in the year 2017 for the following nations (African countries, France, Greece Italy, Rome, Spain, Turkey and UK) where they intend to cause havoc. Let the government of these nations tighten their security, as this is a call for security improvement, not an inexorable doom.
31. Pray for the Vatican City against Isis attack and earthquake. Pray for good health for the
pope in the New Year.
32. Terrorists will make use of biological weapons in the year 2017 let us pray against this.

How I became a lecturer at law school – 24-year-old Okwor

Only 24, Kenneth Okwor is an adjunct lecturer of Corporate Law and Practice at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus, and a Templars Law Firm Associate. In this interview, he tells KEMI LANRE-AREMU, about his love for the legal profession and some of his career milestones
What schools did you attend?
I attended the University of Jos where I obtained a Bachelor of Law degree; and for my vocational and professional training, I attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus. I graduated with a Second Class Upper Honours from the University of Jos, and First Class Honours from the Nigerian Law School. I graduated top of my class at the Nigerian Law School, winning several awards and prizes.
What is your work history?
Presently, I am employed as an Associate at Templars and I am also an Adjunct Lecturer of Corporate Law and Practice at the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School.
What are your job responsibilities?
At Templars, I sit primarily in the finance practice area and we basically advise clients on matters relating to banking, capital markets, mergers, acquisitions and other forms of external and internal restructuring options, project finance and other financing and refinancing structures, and general advisory services on corporate and finance matters.
At the Law School, I teach Corporate Law and Practice.
Did you set out to become a lawyer or you had other professions in mind?
I actually wanted to study Literature in English. However, when it was time to fill the form that would enable me sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Law was the first choice.
Why the sudden change of mind?
I do not think the decision was actuated by any altruistic feeling or by a desire to define a path for my life. Honestly, it was really about gaining admission to the university to study a prestigious course. However, when I began to study Law, I saw that I could be more and I could do more. The study of Law exposed me to deeper issues that have gone a long way in defining who I am today and what I represent.
What are your areas of speciality?
I am specialising in corporate law and finance as my core areas. For me, these areas are niche areas of practice both in Nigeria and across the world and I believe that on account of my love for corporate law and all that concerns it, I would be able to learn, grow, and contribute my quota in developing the jurisprudence in these areas.
You graduated with second class upper honours from the University of Jos and a first class from the Nigerian Law School. How did you achieve these feats?
Like I always say, it was all a function of God’s grace and hard work. Studies at the university are quite different from studies at the Law School. The approach is very different as the university emphasises substantive law and it is usually very theoretical, while the Law School teaches practical law. Even though the Law School keeps an eye out for substantive law, its emphasis is on the practical application of these laws. Therefore, if properly utilised, the knowledge gained from the university can play a key role in facilitating success at the Bar Exams.
At the university, I was diligent and hard-working, and only missed classes when they conflicted with mock trials. Why I placed more emphasis on the mock trials was because they taught me to contextualise the knowledge gained in class and taught me how they would operate in practical reality.
At the Law School, I was also diligent and hard-working. The Law School’s calendar was, and still is, properly structured such that it was perfectly possible to actively participate in the law clinic and the mock trials without missing any class, and this contributed in making the difference.
Can you recollect your first time in court?
Of course I can. It was June 6 this year. My superiors at Templars insisted that I go alone. I was scared and spent the entire weekend studying the file and rehearsing the court’s language in front of my mirror. It was a defamation suit and we were the counsel representing the claimant. In court that morning, I was nervous but the longer I waited, the more relaxed I became because I noticed that the court’s procedure was not significantly different from the mock trials I had experienced in my undergraduate and Law School days. When my matter was called, I got up and successfully did the needful.
Who and what have impacted your legal career so far?
I am an academic and a practitioner and I have mentors in both aspects of my professional life.
Albert Einstein is reputed to have observed that he saw far only because he had the privilege of standing on the shoulders of giants. My case is not different from his. My life and my story is a product of mentorship, with my parents being my first and foremost mentors. They inspire me and consistently encourage me to do more. After my parents, Mrs. Adetoun Adebiyi, the Deputy Director General and Head of Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School is one woman who believes that there is nothing I cannot achieve. Next on the list are my academic fathers and mentors: His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN, Prof. Nnamdi Aduba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge SAN (the one I watch from a distance), Prof.Dakas CJ Dakas SAN, Prof. Joash Amupitan SAN, Prof. Shaakaa, Mr. Alimi, Mrs.Odukoya, Mrs. Egbe, Mr.Ogbuanya, Mr. Sam Oguche, Mr.Udemezue, Mrs. James, and my best friend as far as international law is concerned – Mr. Matthias Zechariah. These persons have, whether actively or passively, consistently spurred me to aim for more.
As a practitioner, Mr. Chike Obianwu tops the list of those I work hard to be like and I learn from him daily. Working with him and Desmond Ogba has made me commercially aware, has changed the way I think, and given me deeper insights into the practical application of legal principles and the provision of ‘A’ grade services to clients.
All these persons have had positive impacts on my legal career and have contributed in pushing me this far in my very young career. I mean, I only became a year old at the Bar on December 16, 2016.
What key skills and qualities must one possess to become a successful solicitor/barrister?
Humility, hard work, diligence, high moral and ethical standards, commercial awareness, reliability, a sound knowledge of the law, continuous professional development, and of course, paying clients!
What do you think are the most important characteristics and abilities for any person’s success?
At the risk of sounding ecclesiastic, grace is a necessary tool for success in whatever we do. In addition to grace, anyone who wants to attain success must merge humility with hard work, smart work, diligent work, and excellent work. Having said that, I must state that I would typically not advice anyone to pursue success alone. I advocate excellence and if I am permitted to quote Ranchoddas of the 3 Idiots, “pursue excellence and success will pursue you pants down.”
How did you arrive at the decision to become an Adjunct Lecturer at the Nigerian Law School?
I have always wanted to teach and I developed that dream while I was a sophomore at the University of Jos. However, the opportunity to teach came when I least expected it and at a level that is best left to imagination. In my eyes, the Law School is a sacred institution reserved only for superior legal minds and I did not permit myself to dream of teaching at the Law School because I did not know that I had the requisite superior mind. Consequently, when Mrs. Adebiyi invited me to be her adjunct lecturer, I was overwhelmed with joy and disbelief.
How do you relate with your students considering your young age?
That has been a challenge – a major challenge actually. I started out by being very friendly with them, but trust students, they started abusing it. Then I switched and became strict, and they said I was proud. Even elderly students consistently try to use the age factor against me. But by and large, God has kept me through. I try to be very friendly with them, but I draw lines where necessary.
What is your ultimate career goal?
To develop the jurisprudence in the theory and practice of corporate law and finance in Nigeria as a scholar and as a practitioner, to fight for a vibrant Nigerian Bar that is made up of lawyers who are driven by a positive sense of ethics and high professional conduct, to fight for the protection of human rights (particularly the rights of internally displaced persons), to make positive impacts on legal education pre-call and mandatory continuing professional development post-call. These are at the vanguard of the career I am building.
In between all that you do, what other things interest you?
Classical music! They always bring peace with them. I also love to watch law-related television series. Arts and nature also interest me. Besides these, I lead a very boring life!
How do you achieve a work life balance?
Truthfully, I do not. In between church, Templars, the Law School, and my personal efforts towards self-development, I have no extra time to myself. Right now, the prospects of a work life balance for me is utopian.

“I tried to kill myself several times”: Former Boxing

Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton tried to kill himself when he suffered from depression after quitting the ring, the Briton said on Thursday.
Hatton, who won titles at light-welterweight and welterweight, retired in 2012 but had already been struggling with depression, drink and drugs.
“I tried to kill myself several times,” the 38-year-old said. “I used to go to the pub, come back, take the knife out and sit there in the dark crying hysterically. In the end I thought I’ll end up drinking myself to death because I was so miserable.’’
Hatton, who registered 45 wins in 48 bouts, said that even if he did not always drink he still could not cope with depression and that led to cocaine use.
“I was coming off the rails with my drinking and that led to drugs. It was like a runaway train,’’ he explained.
Hatton, who now works as a trainer and agent, said fighters needed a support system like footballers, especially after retirement when many found life tough outside sports.
He added that the poverty from which most boxers emerge does not prepare them for life after boxing.
“The thing is… with boxers… we come from council estates. So, it’s very, very hard,” said Hatton.
“It’s an individual sport. So, you get in the ring on your own and then when you retire you tend to spend the rest of your life on your own.’’
Hatton’s best performance came in 2005 when he stopped Australian Kostya Tszyu .
The victory added the IBF light-welterweight title to the WBU belt he already held.
He had a perfect 43-0 record until he was floored by Floyd Mayweather Jr in Las Vegas in 2007 and was never the same again.

Circumcision gone bad: Surgeon cuts off boy's penis

Lawyers in Kuala Lumpur said on Friday that a 9-year-old Malaysian boy got his penis amputated in the second botched circumcision operation in December.
The Lawyers said was due to negligence on the part of his surgeon.
The doctor accidentally cut off the head of the boy’s penis during the operation on December 15.
He then tried to stitch the penis head back on, but did not align it properly, lawyer P. Uthayakumar told reporters at a press conference outside the main hospital building in Kuala Lumpur.
The child was referred to another hospital for immediate further surgery, but the penis head started turning black, and the whole penis later had to be amputated.
“I am very stressed out I don’t know what to do,’’ the father of the child, who did not want to be named, said.
The boy’s parents are seeking compensation to cover reconstructive surgery and are hoping for their son to be treated at a hospital abroad.
“He asks me: Why are you sad mother? I try to control crying in front of him I can’t help but think how his life will be after this,’’ the boy’s mother added while sobbing.
Neither the unidentified doctor, who carried out the botched operation, nor his clinic has made any comment about the case.
Last week a 10-year-old boy lost the top of his penis in a laser technique circumcision, however, the glans was successfully reattached. (dpa/NAN)

Just in : Let My People Go, 'Biafrans' beg Buhari.

Members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, (MASSOB) in Cross River State have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to do everything in his powers to 'free' them to go their independent way.
Public Relations Officer, Comrade Okon Eyo Effiom in a statement said cost of living in Nigeria has inflicted poverty on them and that many of them are dying from hunger and diseases since they can no longer afford to buy basic food items and provisions.
He said there has been much injustice in Nigeria against them so that they are no longer comfortable.
“Many years after the Nigerian civil war, injustice is still being perpetrated against the people of Biafra especially the minorities as seen with the devastation of Odi in Rivers State, the handing over of Bakassi to Cameroon by the Nigerian government. We hereby call on President Mohammadu Buhari to let the people of Biafra go so that we can decide our fate and build our nation"
Comrade Effiom stated that with the state of things, there are clear indications that the Nigerian state cannot no longer take care of its people which accounts for the failed system which has led to the high cost of living.
“Between last year, (2015) and this year, the cost of living has risen over 500% which is way beyond the ordinary citizen which accounts for the high death rate through disease and suicide amongst our people”.
