Army Crushes Boko Haram’s Last Camp in Sambisa Forest | ‘White Man’ Arrested
Nigerian troops have flushed out Boko Haram ragtag forces from their long held fortress, Sambisa Forest, an emphatic indication that Nigeria has dealt a crushing blow on the seven-year-old insurgency.
President Muhammadu Buhari broke the news himself in a special message to Nigerian troops fighting under Operation Lafiya Dole.
“I am delighted at, and most proud of the gallant troops of the Nigerian Army, on receipt of the long-awaited and most gratifying news of the final crushing of Boko Haram terrorists in their last enclave in Sambisa Forest.
I want to use this opportunity to commend the determination, courage and resilience of troops of Operation Lafiya Dole at finally entering and crushing the remnants of the Boko Haram insurgents at ‘Camp Zero,’ which is located deep within the heart of Sambisa Forest.
I was told by the Chief of Army Staff that the Camp fell at about 1:35pm on Friday, December 23, and that the terrorists are on the run, and no longer have a place to hide. I urge you to maintain the tempo by pursuing them and bringing them to justice.
I, therefore, call on all Nigerians to cooperate and support the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies by providing useful information that will expose all the terrorists hiding among the populace.
Further efforts should be intensified to locate and free our remaining Chibok girls still in captivity. May God be with them.
I also want to congratulate and commend the able leadership of the Nigerian Army in particular and indeed, that of the Armed Forces in general, for making this possible.
This, no doubt, will go a long way in improving the security situation not only in the North East, but the country in general. But we must not let our guards down.
Once more, congratulations to our troops and all who, in one way or the other, contributed to this most commendable and momentous effort. May the Almighty continue to be with you.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and a most rewarding and peaceful Year 2017 ahead,” the president said.
According to Dailytrust, a ‘white man,’ whose nationality is not yet disclosed, was arrested after the operatiob.
“The man is under custody and providing positive information,” said a soldier, who just returned to Maiduguri from the liberated forest.
The soldier stated that while hundreds of Boko Haram fighters were killed during the offensive that began about a month ago, many others were captured alive while attempting to flee.
“Hundreds of Boko Haram captives, including men, women and children have been freed and taken to safety.
All I can tell you is that no big Boko Haram commander is alive in the Sambisa; we are in control of the forest.
It took months of planning and mapping because of the size, difficult weather and other factors in the Sambisa Forest,” the soldier said.
The source said that one of the major factors that delayed the capture of the insurgents’ hideout was the thousands of people, including those living in villages around the vast forest that were being held as human shield by the Boko Haram leaders.
It was gathered that the 4,200 troops were deployed to the Sambisa Forest through various fronts, including Ngurosoye, Konduga/Aulari, Bama, Fulka and Damboa.
“The 151 Battalion of the Nigerian Army advanced into Sambisa through the Banki-Darul Jamal axis, the 27 Battalion advanced through Mafa, the 152 Battalion advanced through Pulka, while the 222 Battalion approached the dreaded forest through the Maiduguri axis,” another soldier, who participated in the operation, said.
He said the operation was carried out day and night.
“When mine detectors cleared the way, troops moved in to confront the insurgents, who were equally well armed with sophisticated fighting equipment,” the source added.

Christmas: Reflect on God’s love & Pray for Divine Guidance – President Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigerians should use the Christmas period to pray for divine guidance for the country to overcome its current socio-economic challenges.
The President, who made the call in Abuja on Saturday in his 2016 Christmas message to Nigerians, noted that “there is no better time than now in our nation’s history to pray for divine guidance to get over our current challenges.’’
He said that the nation could have peace if all citizens learnt to tolerate and appreciate one another, respect constituted authority, and be each other’s brothers’ keepers.
“As we celebrate this year’s Christmas, I believe that it is very appropriate for us to reflect on the love of God, aptly espoused in the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ.
During his earthly sojourn, Jesus Christ repeatedly reminded his disciples and followers of peace that come in the midst of trials and tribulations on earth.
During this period, we should remember to offer special prayers to God for all our heroic citizens who paid the supreme price to restore peace and security in the North East and other flash points in the country,” he said.
He also urged Nigerians to remember in their prayers, the security forces in the frontline, making sacrifices to rid the nation of terrorism and violence.
President Buhari also enjoined the citizens not to forget the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) , as well as those who had suffered untold hardship as a result of activities of insurgents and terrorists.
The President reassured that his administration’s immediate priority was to alleviate the poverty of Nigerians by quickly stimulating the economy.
“I assure Nigerians that our government is doing its best to make life easier for all. Let us therefore, renew our hope in the God-ordained unity, progress and prosperity of our great nation. I wish all travelers safe movements and a memorable holiday as we celebrate with our families and friends,” he said.
Chapecoense Airplane Crash: “No technical-factor was part of the accident, everything involved human-error,” Authorities Say
Errors by the pilot, airline, and Bolivian regulators are to blame for a plane crash in Colombia that killed 71 people last month, including most of Brazil’s Chapecoense soccer team, Colombia aviation authorities said.
The plane, operated by Bolivia-based charter company LaMia, crashed on a wooded hillside near Medellin because the pilot failed to refuel en route and did not report engine failures caused by the lack of fuel until it was too late, officials said.
“No technical-factor was part of the accident, everything involved human-error, added to a management-factor in the company’s administration and the management and organization of the flight-plans by the authorities in Bolivia,” Colombia’s Secretary for Air-Safety-Colonel Freddy Bonilla told journalists.
Aviation authorities in Bolivia and the airline “accepted conditions for the flight presented in the flight plan that were unacceptable,” Bonilla added.
Besides a lack of fuel, the plane was over its weight limit by nearly 400 kilograms (881 lbs) and was not certified to fly at the altitude at which the journey took place, Bonilla said.
The preliminary conclusions of Colombia’s investigation coincide with assertions by Bolivia authorities last week that LaMia and the plane’s pilot were directly responsible for the accident.
Pilot Miguel Quiroga was also a co-owner of the airline and was killed in the crash.
Gustavo Vargas Gamboa , LaMia’s chief executive, was jailed pending trial earlier this month on manslaughter and other charges, which he has denied.
His son, Gustavo Vargas Villegas , a former official with Bolivia’s aviation authority, is also being held on charges that he misused his influence in authorizing the license of the plane that crashed. He also says he is innocent.
Criminal charges have also been brought against LaMia co-owner Marco Antonio Rocha Benegas, whose whereabouts are unknown, and air traffic controller Celia Castedo, who fled Bolivia after the crash and is seeking asylum in Brazil.
Bolivian authorities have said the crash was an isolated incident, but that the government will accelerate the process of implementing a new safety system.
Colombian investigators have the final word on causes of the crash, Bolivian authorities have said.

Senegalese Migrant Jailed for 30 Years for Murdering Woman After S*x (Photos)
A law court has found a Senegalese man guilty of murdering a woman he met in a club right after having sex with her.
Cheik Tidiane Diaw and murdered girlfriend, Ashley Olsen
A Senegalese illegal immigrant has been convicted of murdering an American woman in her apartment in Florence, Italy after they met at a nightclub.
Cheik Tidiane Diaw, 27, has been jailed for 30 years for murdering Ashley Olsen, 35, in her apartment on January 9 this year after they had sex.
Olsen, from Summer Haven, Florida, was strangled and suffered several skull fractures. Her body was found by her boyfriend.
Diaw, who had arrived in Italy from Senegal a few months earlier, admitted to police he and Olsen fought violently after a night of drugs and sex but denied strangling her and said he never intended to kill her.
Diaw told investigators they had fought when she tried to push him out of the apartment, fearing her boyfriend would be arriving.
After being pushed against the door, Diaw responded by punching Olsen in the neck and then pushing her to the ground, where she hit her head.
Police arrested Diaw after street surveillance cameras showed him walking with Olsen toward her home that night.
His DNA was found on a cigarette butt and a condom in her apartment.
Prosecutors, who accepted the pair had consensual sex, had sought the maximum sentence of life in prison. See photos below :
Who is abusing Mugabe?
“I am sorry” is all that President Mugabe should have said a long time ago before leaving centre-stage. Such remorse, whether genuine or not, would have left him with some semblance of integrity.
Waiting to die on the job (I would have said “in office” but we are told he now works from home most of the time, if he is not flying somewhere), will erode whatever legacy Mugabe had hoped to leave behind.
Electing to die in power demonstrates that President Mugabe does not care about his legacy, at all. He does not care about his colleagues that have been around him for many years. Neither does he care about his family. Most disappointingly, he does not care about Zimbabwe. If that was not the case, he would have stepped down at least ten or so years ago.
As a nation, we have reached a point in time when it does not matter who comes next for as long as Mugabe goes. If you are burning in a furnace, I am sure anything will be better than being in there. This is the situation we find ourselves in.
The “tree planting video” that has gone viral showing Mugabe failing to push soil into a hole, rather, shovelling it out of the hole, would be funny if it wasn’t sad. President Mugabe had no clue what he was doing or what was going on until the First Lady came to his rescue. As per ZANU PF tradition, none of the aides around him had the guts to take over that shovel and do the right thing.
When Grace Mugabe says she is the one in charge, we must take her seriously. If the video that has gone viral is anything to go by, indeed, Grace is running the show. Vakuru vaya vazokura! It reminds me of a village elder many years ago who was in his advanced age but renowned for not leaving the fields. However, at the end of the long day of toiling, there would be more weeds than crops where he had worked. He insisted that he knew what he was doing and had the energy to do it yet he was achieving the opposite – kutema mbeu vachisiya bundo!
Undoubtedly, President Mugabe has reached that point in life. Who is abusing President Mugabe? This is the one question we need to unpack as a nation. Finding answers might lead us to the solution for our protracted crisis. Using a medical analogy, this is attending to the cause, not symptoms. At his advanced age, it is a matter of time before President Mugabe succumbs to the dictates of nature. Nothing in that video suggests otherwise.

Just in :Ibori, Our Choice For 2019
Some political bigwigs in Nigeria, including senators, governors and political associates of the just-released-from-prison former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, might be rooting for the return of the ex-convict to political office if feelers from a serving senator are anything to go by.
In a video that had gone viral on the social media, the Chairman, Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who was a political adviser to the former governor was seen discussing with Ibori and some of his associates, talking about the political prowess of the man who made him a senator and how he wielded so much influence even while he was behind bars.
Apparently referring to the political future of Ibori without being specific, Nwaoboshi said: “Why we have come today, my brother, my leader, is that, first, we are proud of you and we thank God for sparing your life.
“And we want to open this dream, we are waiting for you, and Nigerians will know that a senator is proposing your choice, and not just a senator, a respected senator. A senator that is chairman of the NDDC”, Nwaoboshi said.
Though Ibori is not set to return to Nigeria anytime soon, it is not clear on which political platform the ex-convict will be running in 2019, if indeed he will be contesting for a political office.
There have been speculations that Ibori is planning to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to have a soft landing and save himself from prosecution.
Some political analysts and lawyers have argued for and against whether Ibori should still face charges in Nigeria after serving a jail term in the UK, but the Court of Appeal had given the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the leave to appeal Ibori’s acquittal by Justice Marcel Awokulehin of the Federal High Court, Asaba, after the former governor pleaded guilty in a London court.
The Court of Appeal had set aside the ruling of the lower court on the grounds that Awokulehin erred in law while delivering his judgement; a three-man panel of justices at the Benin Division of the Court of Appeal on May 15, 2014, ruled that the ex-governor has a case to answer, making the coast clear for the EFCC to further prosecute Ibori upon his return to Nigeria.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that Ibori still belong to its fold because he did not at anytime leave the party. The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said; “Ibori has never left the party, so the question of re-admittance does not arise. He is still a leader of the party, and I am aware of the fact that our members in Delta State are very happy with him.
They don’t have problem with him at all”. Nwaoboshi in the fiveminute video alluded to the fact that Ibori made him a senator, made his daughter a member of the state House of Assembly, anointed governors and even supported the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, to get to their exalted seats while in prison.
The senator also called the attention of Ibori to the fact that he had been betrayed by some of those he helped while in office, a statement to which Ibori replied: “I am the father of all; the good, the bad and the ugly”.
Narrating how he was almost stopped by security agents from making the trip to the United Kingdom, Nwaoboshi said nobody could stop him from flying to London to felicitate with the man he called, “my boss and my leader”. “I want to welcome all of you here, my names are distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.
I left Nigeria yesterday because of my boss. James Ibori is my boss, my brother and somebody I so much loved. “We all came here because of Ibori. There are so many people who had been governors and as soon as they left office, nobody remember them again.
“There are many people who had this problem and nobody will come, but James is a good man, he is a jolly good fellow. The man that makes everybody and nobody made him. “Many people had been governors but they did not have opportunity of installing their successors.
There may never be a governor in Nigeria again, who will sit in the cell or in the prison, and make a governor from there.“There may never be a governor again, in the history of the country, who will sit in the cell and make a senator. “There will never be a governor in the country again who will sit in the cell and support a senate president.
There may never be a governor in the country again who will sit in the cell and make a speaker of the House. “There will never be a governor in the country again who will sit in the cell and make the daughter a member of the House of Assembly.
“When I was at the airport, a security agent came to me and said, ‘I know you are travelling because of Ibori’ and I replied; ‘yes, I am going because of James Ibori and there is nothing you can do to stop me, I have the authority to travel, you cannot stop me.
If you want trouble, we will give you trouble’. “But I know those he signed a lot of things for that had forgotten him today. History will judge everybody”.
Ibori was released from prison on Wednesday confirming a story earlier reported by Saturday Telegraph, in which this newspaper noted that Ibori would be released on December 20.
The ex-con is to remain in the UK until his deportation to Nigeria is fully processed as he is now restricted to his London apartment and also required to report weekly to the police.
But Dogara yesterday reacted, saying, though there is a possibility that Ibori, could be his silent supporter, he had no personal relationship with the ex-convict and that he was duly elected by members of the lower legislative chamber, not by Ibori “Our attention has been drawn to statement credited to Nwabaoshi. We have watched the video clip and noticed that there is nowhere the distinguish senator mentioned Dogara by name.
“For the records, we want to state that the Speaker was elected by the votes of members of the House of Representatives. There may well be silent supporters and well-wishers of the honourable speaker from far and near some of whom he may not be aware of.
“Dogara does not have a relationship, political or otherwise with Ibori to warrant the insinuations in the statement credited to Nwabaoshi, and had never had one.”

Checkout Goodluck Jonathan's Christmas Message To Nigerians
The essential message of Christmas is that Christ came to earth to live and die for the purpose of reconciling us to God. Being recipients of such good tidings, should we not appreciate this divine sacrifice by being reconciled with each other during this Yuletide season and beyond? My desire for Nigeria and Nigerians this Christmas is that we treasure our common brotherhood knowing that if God did not will it so, we would not have found ourselves as Nigerians. To God be the glory, we have survived to this point and I am more than confident that we will go on to thrive in 2017 as we work together to build a Nigeria where anyone can become anything irrespective of his region, religion or tribe. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year from my family and I to you and your family. May God bless Nigeria. GEJ.

MTN Reportedly Fires Top Official for Bribing Buhari's CoS Abba Kyari
According to a report from Sahara Reporters, MTN has fired one of its top and most valuable staffers for bribing Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sahara Reporters say Amina Oyagbola was fired in order to avoid scrutiny by the United States government.
Excerpt:
Shortly after helping to resolve a hefty fine imposed by the Nigerian government, Amina Oyagbola was so important to MTN that the company gave her two strategic positions. Her corporate elevation saw her combining leadership of the Human Resources department with the post of "Director of Strategic Communications" at MTN.
Ms. Oyagbola and her husband were instrumental in resolving MTN's serious problem with the Nigerian Presidency culminating in a massive $5.2 billion fine imposed on the company for ignoring the Nigerian government’s directive to ensure that all SIM cards were registered as a strategy to curb Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria's northeast.
An insider within the company and other sources in Abuja told our correspondent that, once the fine was imposed, Ms. Oyagbola recruited a close friend, Femi Lijadu, to act as a consultant for “strategic advisory services.” In that capacity, Mr. Lijadu was a member of the team that negotiated with the Federal Government to reduce the fine to $1.7 billion. One of our sources said Ms. Oyagbola and Mr. Lijadu once worked with presidential Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari at the United Bank for Africa.
