Defence headquarters denies alleged sack of two Service Chiefs

Abuja - The Defence headquarters has dismissed news making the rounds that President Muhammadu Buhari has removed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin and the Chief of Naval State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas.
It asked people to discountenance the rumours as the two Service Chiefs remain in their duty posts.
There was news on Monday that President Buhari has approved the retirement duo.
Buhari according to New Telegraph had directed the Minister of Defence, Brig.- Gen. Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd), to send letters to the two Service Chiefs to notify them of their disengagement from service.
In the letter, the duo were directed to handover on or before Friday, December 16.
Olonisakin and Ibas’ disengagements were based on their attaining the official years of retirement from the military.
While Olonisakin was commissioned Second Lieutenant on December 18, 1981, Ibas’ commissioning took place in 1983.
But Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, Director of Information, Defence Headquarters, according to
Vanguard said nothing like that happened.
He said the Defence headquarters will soon issue a press statement on the situation of things as it concerned the two Service Chiefs.
