Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni has said that it will treat Mike Eze-Nwalie , aka Pretty Mike‘s case as a criminal investigation.
Mike had walked into a wedding venue last weekend with two ladies on a dog leash. An act that sparked outrage on social media. That was not the first time he was doing that as he had shared a video of him walking with the same ladies on a leash to another event.
He was on Wednesday arrested for what was called a “dehumanising act”.
Mike was also made to sign an undertaking that he will not repeat the act.
The Law Pretty Mike violated
Owoseni said that the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) of Lagos State are also looking into the matter.
The police chief said that the command “will be looking at the story from the angle of criminal investigation” and will keep the public abreast of any development.

War of Words in Nollywood :Chioma Akpotha calls out Gideon Okeke for Criticizing Chiwetalu Agu

Nollywood Actor Gideon Okeke took to his Instagram page to criticize Nollywood veteran Chiwetalu Agwu for his use of vulgarities in movies, saying it was being used too much and it isn’t funny anymore.
Gideon emphasized on the fact that children had access to his films and said that the film and censors board and movie channels need to rate films appropriately.
Well, this did not sit well with actress Chioma Akpotha as she in turn called Gideon out and accused him of being disrespectful, saying how dare he insult an older talent on social media. She went further to say the “new generation” actors lacked morals.

MMM Opens Portal for Participants to Make Withdrawal Requests

Money doubling scheme, Mavrodi Mundial Movement (MMM) , has opened its portal for participants to create Get Help (GH) requests – withdrawals.
The scheme had frozen withdrawals on December 13 2016 over “heavy workload on system”.
According to the letter in December, the ban on withdrawals was partly due to negative reports by the media on the scheme.
See the message that appeared on their website below:
Dear members,
The holidays are over, and we’re now open. Just as promised. (You might have already noticed that we always stick to our promises.  Actually, we promised to be open on January 14, but we’re open now, January 13th, as you can see, which is a day earlier. (Well, I hope, the members of the System will forgive us for that.
It”s related to the hysteria raised by the authorities and the mass media around MMM. By joining forces, they’ve managed to nearly give the members of the System a heart attack and have frightened them out of their wits. Poor souls don’t know what to expect. Will we open again or not?
This is why we’ve decided, considering the situation, to reach out to the members, reassure and cheer them up by opening a little earlier. After all, Together We Can Change The World!
Here we go.
1. As of this notice, MMM resumes its usual operation. You can now create your GH-requests.
2. However, it’s obvious that panic will reign in the first few days after the reopening of the System. We’re likely to be deluged by GH-requests. Therefore, we’re going to make gradual paybacks by setting internal output limits. In other words, we will only pay a certain amount per day. Please, be prepared to wait for a couple of days. We are certain things will then calm down, and the System operation will return to normal.
We’re the ones setting the limits, so it’s completely under our control, and we are not expecting any emergencies in principle. Have no fear and go on about your business as usual.
As the System is socially oriented, we will make paybacks to the poor and the economically disadvantaged in the first place: it means to the members with small PH amounts. The richer can wait. Moreover, we’ve warned you repeatedly to only provide help with amounts that are not critical for you. Therefore, if these large amounts are not critical for them (the richer), they can wait a few days. No need to be tragic about it.
This is the way it”s going to be.
Hoping for your kind understanding, Sergey Mavrodi . We Change The World!
P. S. I”d like again to call on the authorities and the mass media: Please, leave us alone! Have mercy on people.

Pope Francis tells story of a beautiful woman who had an abortion just to preserve her figure

Using a woman who had an abortion to preserve her looks, Pope Francis took aim at the modern world's obsessions with power, success and beauty.
During his series of catechesis on Christian hope at his
Wednesday General Audience, the Pontiff told a story dated from his time as Bishop of Buenos Aires, of a very beautiful woman who "bragged of her beauty"
"She said, as if it was natural, 'Yes, I had to have an abortion because my appearance is important'," the 80-year-old,said.
''When values such as physical beauty, health become idols to which everything must be sacrificed they create confusion in our spirit and in our hearts.
"Rather than promoting life, they drive us towards death," he added in comments that also targeted "power, success and vanity with their illusions of eternity and omnipotence."
Taking issue with the false idols offered by our modern world, Pope Francis at his Wednesday General Audience said that “hope is a primary need in man” but that we can get lost in our search for security by trusting in the false hopes offered by idols.
He said the Scriptures teach us that side by side with authentic hope, born of trust in God’s word, we can be tempted by false hopes and worldly idols, like money, power or physical beauty.
Idols, he said,
“confuse the mind and heart, and, instead of favoring life, they lead to death.
He went on to say,
"Faith is trusting in God, but there comes a moment in which [we], confronted with life’s difficulties, experience the fragility of that trust and feel the need for other certainties, more tangible and concrete.”
The Scriptures, especially the prophets and wisdom writers, he said, reveal the fleeting nature of idols and the hope they offer. In Psalm 115, the Psalmist ironically presents these idols as silver and gold, made of human hands.
"The message of the Psalm is very clear," Pope Francis said, "one who places their hope in idols becomes like them: empty images with hands that don’t touch, feet that don’t walk, mouths that cannot speak. One has nothing else to say and becomes incapable of helping, of changing things, of smiling, giving of oneself, and of loving."
In contrast, God is always greater than we are, making us incapable of reduce God to our size, made in our own image and tailored to our desires.

Full List Of Fresh Ambassadorial Nominees Submitted By President Buhari To Senate Today

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, January 12th resubmitted names of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Nigerian Senate, two months after the legislature rejected his first list.
George Oguntade, a retired Supreme Court Judge, and Olorunmimbe Mamora, former Senator, are two of the well-known figures dropped by Mr. Buhari.
Also, Adegboyega Ogunwusi, an elder brother of the Ooni of Ife, Enitan Ogunwusi, was dropped.
The governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress had last year complained that the earlier nominees were drawn from their respective states without consultations with them.
After Senate President Bukola Saraki read the new nominees on Thursday, Abuja Senator, Phillip Aduda thanked Mr. Buhari for nominating an indigene of Abuja this time.
Mr. Aduda protested the non-inclusion of any FCT indigene when the earlier list was submitted to the Senate in October last year.
Below is the full list of the new nominees:

ECOMOG NIBATT 1: 7 Things You Should Know About Battalion That Will Remove Jammeh

The Nigerian Army has raised an army battalion that would be deployed tp remove President Yahya Jammeh from office if he fails to step down.
Premium Times authoritatively report that the Nigerian Battalion would be deployed in The Gambia anytime after January 19 if President Jammeh makes real his threat not to step down after the expiration of his tenure.
Here are seven things you should know about the battalion christened ECOMOG NIBATT 1:
1. The Army’s 19th Battalion based in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
2. Personnel were also drawn from other formations and units across the country due to shortage of men at 19 Battalion which has a significant chunk of its troops deployed for internal security task force, Operation Delta Safe.
3. . Army Headquarters has instructed the nominated officers and men, put at over 800, to immediately report at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, for a crashed course on counter terrorism and counter insurgency.
4. Army Headquarters has also instructed the Army directorates of policy and plans; finance; and logistics to ready funds, arms, ammunition and other logistics for the operation.
5. The Armoured Corps is also working hard to ready armoured vehicles needed for the task
6. The Nigerian Air Force and the Navy might deploy men and equipment for the operation as well.
7 . They have the support of the regional bloc, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Meanwhile, West African leaders, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, the chief mediator, are travelling to Gambia on Friday (tomorrow) to persuade Mr. Jammeh to accept defeat and hand over to Adama Barrow

'I escaped death by reciting from the Koran'

When five armed Islamist militants stormed a restaurant in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 1 July 2016, 29 people lost their lives. Emerging from the appalling, bloody debris are stories of immense courage. There are also unanswered questions about what happened to some of those who died.
It was about 20:45 on a Friday evening just before the Islamic festival of Eid. The restaurant - the Holey Artisan Bakery and O'Kitchen in Gulshan, Dhaka's leafiest, most exclusive area - was filling up, mostly with Japanese and Italian customers.
Suddenly, the five young militants burst in shooting and began hacking at the diners with sharp weapons.
Shishir Sarker, one of the Holey Artisan's chefs, was coming out of the refrigerated chiller room with a plate of pasta when he heard shouting.
"Then I saw one of the attackers - in one hand he had a sword or machete, and a gun was slung across his chest," Sarker recalls.
As a Hindu, he had good reason to be afraid - if the Islamist militants found out his religion, it would be a death sentence.
"At that moment, a Japanese man shouted to me: 'Help me!'," he says. "I turned and went back inside the chiller, and helped him in too."
There was no latch to lock the chiller from the inside, so the two men pulled on the door to keep it shut.
"The Japanese guy asked me who those men were. I said I didn't know, but don't worry, the police are coming."
For nearly two hours the men stayed quietly inside.
"It was really cold. We did some exercise to try and keep warm - sit-ups holding the door pulled shut," Sarker says.
Then came a terrifying moment - one of the attackers tried to open the chiller door.
"We held on to it very hard and he failed. He went away, but now they knew someone was inside."
And 10 or 15 minutes later the militant came back.
"We were so cold, we were losing our strength," Sarker says. The attacker hauled the door open.
"He told me to come out. I was so frightened I immediately fell on to the ground and lay there. I thought if I was standing, he might chop me with his machete. I was repeatedly saying: 'For Allah's sake, don't kill me.'"
Assuming he was Muslim, and therefore not a target, the gunman told him to go and join his colleagues on the other side of the restaurant.
"I crawled on my hands and knees over dead bodies and blood. Then suddenly I heard two shots. The Japanese man with me in the chiller was dead."
Sarker sat at a table with other members of staff, all of them with their heads down. After 02:00, one of the militants asked who the chef was. His colleagues pointed at Sarker. He was taken to the kitchen.
"They asked me what food we had - if we had sea bass and shrimps. I said, yes we had. They told me to fry it, and decorate it nicely on a plate."
While Sarker was cooking, one of the militants came into the kitchen.
"He asked me what my name was. I just said my name was Shishir - I didn't tell him my second name because that would have revealed that I'm Hindu."
Perhaps the militant was suspicious. He asked Sarker to recite from the Koran.
Sarker calmly carried on frying sea bass. And he recited Koranic verses.
"All my life I've had Muslim friends, so I knew some Surah [chapters of the Koran]. But I was so frightened. I was thinking - would I satisfy him?"
In keeping with Islamic tradition during Ramadan, the food was served before dawn to the Muslim hostages and to the staff.
"I was so scared, when I ate I couldn't swallow the food. But I thought if I didn't eat, they would think I wasn't going to fast the following day, and then they would guess I wasn't Muslim," says Sarker.
Soon after sunrise, Operation Thunderbolt - a commando-led assault with armoured personnel carriers - ended the siege. The five militants lay dead. Sarker and his surviving colleagues were rescued.
Life will never be the same for this unassuming young chef. He is working again, but still traumatised by that hellish night.
"I don't see any future. I can't sleep properly. Whenever I'm alone and I think of that night, I just can't do anything - I feel terrified."
The student who refused to abandon his friends
Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain, a 20-year-old studying at a university in the US, was home in Dhaka for the holidays.
He had arranged to meet two old school friends at the Holey Artisan that night - Abinta Kabir, a US citizen from a Bangladeshi family studying at the same university, and Tarishi Jain, who was Indian, a Hindu and a student in California.
Hossain and the young women had just taken their seats in the restaurant when the attack began. A family driver called his mother and told her something was amiss.
"As soon as my mum heard, she barged into my room and said, 'I'm going'," says Faraaz's brother Zaraif. "She put on her shawl, took her phone, and ran - I ran behind her.
"When we got there people started telling us they'd heard the assailants shouting: 'Allahu Akbar!' That's when it hit us this must be more serious than an armed robbery or something."
After 21:30, some 45 minutes after the attack had begun, a number of the restaurant staff managed to escape via the roof. They appeared on the street, and Zaraif and his mother homed in on one of the waiters.
"We asked, 'Have you seen a boy with two girls?' We were showing a picture of Faraaz on our phones. And he said, 'I've seen them, they're hiding under a table.'"
But other details were chilling.
The waiter said everyone who was foreign was being kept in one section. And everyone who was considered Bangladeshi and Muslim was put into another section.
"At that moment my mother turned to me and said: 'Tarishi and Abinta won't be let go. I'm so scared, because I know my son - I know Faraaz, and he's not going to leave his friends.'"
When the siege ended, Faraaz and both his friends were dead - murdered by the militants. And an incredible account emerged of Faraaz's last moments, validating his mother's fears.
"So what we heard about what transpired was that, well… Faraaz was a Bangladeshi and a Muslim and therefore, logically, he would have been let go by the terrorists," says his brother.
"But when he was told to leave, Faraaz said: 'What about my friends?' And when they were denied freedom, he said: 'I'm not leaving them.'"
The story of Faraaz's selfless act has brought international recognition, including the Mother Theresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice, which was conferred posthumously on this bright young man.
In Bangladesh too, he has been celebrated.
"In remote places, people are having discussion meetings saying: 'Faraaz is Bangladesh, this is who we are - not the terrorists,'" says Faraaz's grandfather, the industrialist, Latifur Rahman.
"In Banshkhali, they named a square after him. The other day a professor at one of our universities gave birth to a boy and named him Faraaz - because, she said, she wanted him to have the same values as Faraaz."
This is heartening for the family. But it cannot replace the mad-keen Manchester United fan - a young man destined, says his grandfather, for leadership and success.
"I struggle with it every day. I understand what he did, I deeply admire what he did, but I struggle with understanding how one could do that. I struggle because I don't have the guts. I don't have the strength to do what this young boy did. I wish he was here with me."
The mystery of the lost cook
Zakir Hossain Shaon's family home on the southern outskirts of Dhaka feels like a million miles from the upmarket restaurant where he was employed. Down a track that skirts a pond covered in water hyacinth, his parents, brothers and sister live in a tiny one-room house with an adjoining kitchen.
Shaon, 18, had worked at the Holey Artisan for about a year.
"He adapted quickly to that job and his cooking duties," says his father, Abdus Sattar.
"All his colleagues loved him because he was the youngest," says Zakir's mother, Maksuda Begum.
On the evening of 1 July, Shaon was at work. He called his mother and told her he had been paid an Eid bonus, and would be coming home the next day, or the day after.
It was many hours before his parents found out about the attack - as it was the month of Ramadan, they were not watching television that evening.
In the morning, they were told about it by neighbours, and headed to Gulshan with Shaon's picture. They went from one police officer to another showing their son's photo. They talked to countless people on the streets. No-one knew anything.
At 22:00 that night, Sattar was in Gulshan police station. He says an officer there told him his son was alive, but that he could not say where he was.
Meanwhile, on local TV, pictures of Shaon were shown. They were taken sometime before 03:00 on 2 July, while the militants were still inside the Holey Artisan.
In them, Shaon is sitting in the back of a police vehicle, officers holding his arms. He is bleeding from the chest, but he is clearly conscious.
Somehow he had escaped the siege. So where was he now?
On the morning of 3 July, Shaon's parents got a call from a surviving member of the Holey Artisan's staff. He told them their son was in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
They rushed to see him. It was deeply distressing. He looked as though he had been beaten. There were marks on his legs, and he had a black eye which was not there on the TV pictures. He slipped in and out of consciousness.
"Every time he came to his senses he said one thing - 'Don't hit me please, don't beat me any more. Let me go,'" remembers his mother.
"The police grabbed him, and they tortured him. They hit him on the head. They kicked him. They indiscriminately beat him," she claims.
The chief of counter-terrorism for Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Monirul Islam, says Shaon was not in police custody.
"He was injured while he was trying to escape [from the restaurant]. He was taken to the hospital after Holey Bakery incident, at midnight I think. We are not sure who took whom to the hospital."
Dhaka Medical College Hospital can find no record of admitting Shaon, so the date and time he arrived cannot be confirmed.
His father tried to make a complaint to the police. "They didn't pay any heed to it," he says.
Shaon died on 8 July - a week after the siege. His family are still looking for answers.
On 11 January, the Holey Artisan Bakery reopened, albeit in a different location. The previous Friday, Dhaka police said one of the alleged masterminds of the siege had been shot dead. The shockwaves from the attack continue to reverberate across Bangladesh.

World's heaviest woman : India hospital builds new unit to operate on '500kg' Egyptian woman(See photos)

An Indian hospital is building a special facility so that an Egyptian woman, believed to be the world's heaviest at 500kg (1,102lb), can soon undergo weight reduction surgery.
The facility at Mumbai's Saifee Hospital will have an operating theatre and an intensive care unit.
Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, 36, is expected to arrive in the city on a chartered plane at the end of January.
Her family says she has not been able to leave home for 25 years.
The estimate of her weight is given by relatives.
If confirmed, she would be the world's heaviest woman alive as the current Guinness record holder is Pauline Potter of the United States who weighed 292kg (643lb) in 2010.
However, Dr Lakdawala told the BBC last month that he believes Ms Abd El Aty does not have elephantiasis but suffers from obesity-related lymphoedema which causes gigantic swelling of legs.
Dr Lakdawala's patients have previously included Indian ministers Nitin Gadkari and Venkaiah Naidu, who underwent weight reduction surgery.
The Indian embassy in Cairo had initially denied Ms Abd El Aty's visa request as she was unable to travel there in person.
She was issued a visa after Dr Lakdawala tweeted to India's foreign minister Sushma Swaraj who responded with an offer of help .

No! Senator Ike Ekweremadu Will Not Decamp To APC To Remain The Deputy Senate President – PDP Tells Senator Kabiru Marafa

Press Release

Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to Senator Kabiru Marafa on the Floor of the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in which he advised Senator Ike Ekweremadu to decamp to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in order to remain as the Deputy Senate President.

2. This call is unconstitutional, undemocratic and to say the least, unbecoming of Senator Marafa. For the record, these are his words, “I am using this medium to call on Ekweremadu to simply decamp. Section 68(G) of the 1999 Constitution captures this”. Fortunately, there is no section or clause of the Nigerian Constitution (1999 As Amended) that provides that one must be a member of the Ruling Party before he/she can be elected into any position in the Senate or the House of Representatives.

3. Equally, it is very distasteful and uncharitable for any senator to stand on the Floor of the Hallowed Chamber and ask his colleague to violate the Constitution by cross-carpetting from his own Party to join the Ruling Party. Note that it is Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not Senate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

4. It is indeed laughable for Senator Marafa to cite the internal issues in the PDP as a reason for Senator Ekweremadu to decamp. For the upteenth time, let us re-iterate that there is no faction in the PDP. A party is only factionalized when its organs are in disarray but this is different in the PDP where all the organs are intact behind the National Caretaker Committee under the chairmanship of H. E. Senator Ahmed Makarfi, CON. A mere rebellion by a small  interest group within the Party cannot be referred to factionalization of the Party.

5. In view of the above, any member of the PDP using the current leadership disagreement caused by the Rebellious Group led by the former Borno State Governor, Senator Sherrif to decamp is doing so at his or her peril. Senator Marafa or any other member of the APC has no power to make such demands on a member of the PDP.

6. Let us remind Senator Marafa that Senator Ike Ekweremadu was elected as Deputy President of Senate by  majority votes from both the PDP and APC senators. Any attempt to remove Senator Ekweramadu for being a member of the Opposition Party and not because of a constitutional breach or incompetence is a call for anarchy.

7. The current situation in the Senate where the Senate President and the Deputy Senate President are from different parties should not continue to appear strange to Senator Marafa and his likes in a democratic system. For instance in the Second Republic, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Umezeoke was from opposition NPP while the Senate President was from the Ruling Party, the NPN, and both of them worked harmoniously with the cooperation of the Executive in moving the Country forward.

8. Finally, we call on our members in the National Assembly to remain strong and united behind the Deputy Senate President with determination not to allow the APC truncate our hard earned democracy through their undemocratic tendencies. To the APC lawmakers in the National Assembly, do not forget that Nigeria belongs to all of us and we must work together to protect her in order to advance our democracy.

Long live the PDP!! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!

Signed:

Prince Dayo Adeyeye
National Publicity Secretary

Gambia electoral quagmire :Buhari to send over 800 soldiers, warplanes to Gambia if Jammeh fails to step down

President Muhammadu Buhari has raised an army battalion that would be deployed in troubled Gambia to forcefully remove President Yahya Jammeh from power if he fails to step down on January 19, reports PREMIUM TIMES .
It was reported that the Nigerian Battalion would be deployed in The Gambia any time after January 19 if President Jammeh makes real his threat not to step down after the expiration of his tenure.
According to the online platform, the battalion is christened ECOMOG NIBATT 1 and was drawn from the Army’s 19th Battalion based in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
It was learnt that the Army Headquarters has instructed the nominated officers and men, put at over 800, to immediately report at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, for a crashed course on counter terrorism and counter insurgency.
The Army Headquarters has reportedly instructed the Army directorates of policy and plans; finance; and logistics to ready funds, arms, ammunition and other logistics for the operation.
The Armoured Corps is also working hard to ready armoured vehicles needed for the task.
There were suggestions that the Nigerian Air Force and the Navy might deploy men and equipment for the operation as well.
Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has said he will not step down before a Supreme Court decision on disputed elections, a ruling now not expected until May.
In a nationwide TV broadcast, the longstanding ruler also reiterated his concern at “ foreign interference ”.
Regional mediators, led by Nigeria’s president, are expected in The Gambia on Friday to urge him to accept defeat following December’s election .
President-elect Adama Barrow says he will be inaugurated next week.
Mr Jammeh, who initially accepted defeat in the 1 December poll, lodged a case before the Supreme Court after the electoral commission changed some results. The president made his speech on Tuesday evening after it was announced that the Supreme Court hearing would be delayed until May because of a shortage of judges, who mostly come from neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile the head of Gambia’s army has given his full backing to the country’s president, Yahya Jammeh , amid a deepening political crisis.
In a letter to the pro-government newspaper, Gen Ousman Badjie pledged the “unflinching loyalty and support of the Gambia Armed Forces” to Mr Jammeh.
Gen Badjie’s intervention follows the threat of military action by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) if Mr Jammeh refuses to leave office on 19 January.
President Jammeh has said any such intervention would constitute an act of war.

Jammeh ‘will not step down’ when mandate ends – Gambian minister

Gambia’s outgoing President Yayah Jammeh will not step down when his mandate which ends on Jan. 18, in spite of his electoral defeat, the Information Ministry said on Thursday.
The autocrat, who ruled the small West African nation for 22 years, will remain in office until the Supreme Court decides on a petition filed by Jammeh.
According to the statement, Jammeh is challenging the result of the Dec. 1 presidential election.
President-elect Adama Barrow, a former real estate agent who was little known before he announced his candidacy, meanwhile reiterated he is planning to take office on Jan. 19, as scheduled.
Earlier, Gambia’s current dysfunctional Supreme Court adjourned hearing Jammeh’s petition till Jan. 16 since only one of a required minimum of five judges were present.
Experts however believe it will be highly unlikely that four additional judges will be present on Monday.
This is because the Supreme Court has not been operational since Jammeh fired several of the court’s judges in mid-2016.
All other eligible Court of Appeal judges left the country after the December election.
Observers fear that delays to the planned handover of power could lead to violence. (dpa/NAN)

FRAUD : I AM NOT INVOLVED IN $1.3bn MALABU OIL FRAUD-GEJ

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied involvement in the infamous Malabu Oil Fraud.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze , the former president denied any involvement in the fraud.
A report by SaharaReporters had said:
An investigative report by Italian prosecutors has alleged that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, former Minister of Petroleum Diezani Alison-Madueke, former Attorney Generals Mohammed Adoke and Bayo Ojo, former Minister of Defense and ex-National Security Adviser, Aliyu Gusau , as well as numerous other senior government officials shared hundreds of millions of dollars. In an indictment obtained by SaharaReporters, Italian prosecutors alleged that Jonathan and several officials of his government as well as top corporate officials of international oil firms, Eni and Shell, met several times between 2010 and 2011 to seal the fraudulent Malabu deal and split a massive loot running into hundreds of millions between Nigerian government and public interests as well as corporate officials.
The former president, reacting to the statement, said:
Our attention has been drawn to news reports published mostly by online media which suggested through innuendo, rather than factual evidence, that former President Goodluck Jonathan received kickbacks in the $1.3bn OPL 245 oil block deal involving oil giants ENI and
Royal Dutch Shell .
With regards to the publication, we wish to make it clear that former President Jonathan was not accused, indicted or charged for corruptly collecting any monies as kickbacks or bribes from ENI by the Italian authorities or any other law enforcement body the world over.
In the first place, we have to categorically state that the negotiations and transactions for the oil block deal predate the Presidency of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan which began on 6th May 2010 and ended on 29th May 2015.
It may interest those promoting this false narrative to know that all the documents relating to the transactions, issues and decisions of the Federal Government on the Malabo issue, during the Jonathan administration, are in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation/Minister of Justice.
As President of Nigeria, there is no doubt that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan met with executives of all the oil majors operating in Nigeria and urged them to, amongst other things, support the growth of the Nigerian oil industry by ramping up their investments and comply with the Local Content Act that he promoted and signed into law.
We however wish to state, for emphasis, that at no time did the former President hold private meetings with representatives of ENI to discuss pecuniary issues. All the meetings and discussions former President Jonathan had with ENI, other IOCs and some indigenous operators were conducted officially, and in the presence of relevant Nigerian Government officials and were done in the best interest of the country.
We make bold to point out that the former President never sent any Abubakar Aliyu , as the innuendoes in the false report suggest, to ENI, the IOCs or any indigenous operator to seek favour or collect any gratification on his behalf.
We will like to point out for the umpteenth time that whether in office or out of office, former President Jonathan does not own any bank account, aircraft or real estate outside Nigeria. Anyone with contrary information is challenged to publicly publish same.
As the President who signed the Freedom of Information Act into law, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan lifted the veil on governance and encouraged transparency knowing that evil breeds in secrecy. It is the opinion of the former President that journalists and media houses should take advantage of this law in their investigative journalism, rather than rely on hearsay.
We hope that these clarifications will help guide future reports which should be factual.

Court invites Habiba over alleged abduction, forced marriage saga

A Katsina High Court has summoned Habiba Isyaku, a teenager entangled in the alleged forceful abduction and marriage saga, to appear before it over a letter deposited at the court distancing herself from an ongoing case before it.
At the resumed sitting yesterday, the Presiding Judge, Justice Baraka Wali drew the attention of the court to the letter which was addressed to the court through the registrar.
Daily Trust reports that Habiba who is the second applicant in the case was said to have written to the court distancing herself from the case as it was instituted without her consent or knowledge.
Deliberating on the matter, the prosecuting counsel Barrister BS Bawa who is also Habiba's lawyer said such letter should not have been an issue giving the fact that it was not supported with relevant documents like affidavits nor duly signed and besides it was written in Hausa language which is alien to the court as language of communication.
In their separate remarks, lawyers of the dependants, Abu Umar, IG Salisu, IBK Nasir and AM Saulawa argued that since the letter has come into been it was only proper for the court to listen to it more also coming from central pillar that the whole case revolves around.
Having listen to all deliberation, Justice Wali directed that Habiba be invited on the next adjourned sitting of 25th January to give oral evidence on the status of the purported letter.
