Apostle Suleiman Fires Pastor for Using Church’s Name to Participate in MMM
Apostle Johnson Suleiman
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the church’s head of administration, Pastor David Apelorioye.
Recall that Suleiman, during a church service late last year, condemned the scheme, calling it “demonic” and “satanic”. Suleiman added that participants need prayers.
The statement from the church read:
The management of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide is using this medium to react to a news making the rounds on the social media regarding one of his pastors who used the ministry’s name to register for the MMM scheme.
Ordinarily, the church would not have reacted to the story because of falsehoods being published regularly by some blogs and news websites whose credibility are questionable. But after a thorough investigation by the church authority, it was established that one of our branch pastors in Aba, Pastor Joseph Aiyedun , indeed participated in the scheme.
The church authority decided to expel Pastor Aiyedun not because he registered for the ponzi scheme but because he involved the ministry’s name in the satanic adventure. And we discovered that he was able to use the ministry’s name because he had access to the account of his branch which itself is against the church’s guidelines and a fraud likely to have been carried out in connivance with the branch’s account department. We are still investigating further to unravel the whole activities.
Of the OFM’s 200 churches in Nigeria alone and its 800 branches in 51 nations of the world, it is possible for any of the pastors to go astray and be corrected. In fact, we discovered that Pastor Aiyedun, including some other members of OFM, did the scheme before our father, Apostle Johnson Suleman made the warning last year against MMM, but Pastor Aiyedun was fired because he did it with the ministry’s name as the OFM rules forbid any of its pastors access to the account except people in the account department.
FRCN :It is “Illegal, Unconstitutional, and Irresponsible” – Femi Falana.
Lawyer and Human Rights Activist, Femi Falana has reacted to the removal of the Executive Director of the
Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), Jim Obazee.
Falana described the removal as “illegal, unconstitutional, and irresponsible”, saying that Obazee was only implementing a law that was assented to by the Federal Government.
He also criticized churches for registering with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as NGO’s while they use funds from the public to set up businesses (schools, leasing of private jets, etc).
He called on religious bodies to “tidy up” and “discipline” themselves and not wait for the government to regulate their activities.

Danish Woman, Anja Loven, Who Saved Nigerian 'Witch-Child' Is 2016 World's Most Inspiring Person
Remember the photo(above) of a 2-year old boy who was cast out by his own community in Nigeria for being a witch-child? The boy, now named Hope, was found emaciated and riddled with worms after being forced to live off scraps thrown to him by passersby for eight months. He was rescued after being discovered naked and wandering the streets on January 31 by Anja Ringgren Loven, a Danish care worker living in Africa.
Anja Ringgren Loven has been recognised in an international list of the most inspiring people of the year 2016.
Loven, a Danish care worker who adopted the young Nigerian boy back in February, beat the likes of Pope Francis, Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama to top the list of 100 inspiring individuals compiled by German-language Ooom Magazine.
The photo of Ms Lovén giving two-year-old Hope some water was shared around the world, and served to highlight the work she was doing to help orphan children in Nigeria.
Before he was rescued by Ms Lovén and her husband David, Hope had been cast out by his own family on the basis of rural superstition, forced to live on the street where he contracted a number of illnesses including worms.
Speaking about the experience, she said: “He was the size of a little baby, my whole body froze.
“I became a mother myself 20 months ago and I was thinking of my own son when I saw the boy. For me it was clear at that moment that I would fight with all my strength for him to survive.”
“Anja Ringgren Lovén is a beacon of hope and the most inspiring person of the year 2016,” said Georg Kindel, OOOM’s editor-in-chief, who led the jury that chose the list. “When she saw the starving child, she acted like a human being and became an inspiration for millions. Her sustained efforts to help the abandoned children of Nigeria gives us hope and encourages us to follow suit.”
The outgoing US President Barack Obama was named second on the list. The jury said he stood for “peace, tolerance and freedom” and that, despite failures during his leadership including on Guantánamo, Syria and Iraq, “we will miss him anyway”.
The actress and philanthropist Charlize Theron was named third in the list, thanks mainly to her “massive involvement” in combatting HIV/Aids in her native South Africa.
Pope Francis was named fourth, after the jury said his “humble” leadership had changed the Catholic Church for the better.
And the actor Leonardo DiCaprio was given the fifth slot, as a result of his work to combat climate change culminating in the film “Beyond the Flood”.
Ooom Magazine is distributed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and for free online.

Abubakar Shekau: Why We Bombed UNIMAID Mosque
Abubakar Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram group, has taken responsibility for the bomb blasts that occurred at the University of Maiduguri, Borno state, on Monday.
On Monday, suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers attacked a mosque and another location within the university.
The blasts killed four people and injured 17 others, as of first count.
In a audio recording published on YouTube, Shekau said the mosque was attacked because it was “ungodly”.
He reiterated that the Nigerian army did not kill any of his members in the Sambisa forest.
“The bomb that happened this morning, it’s my people. Don’t deceive people that it’s a mosque, how would you build a mosque and do ungodly things in it,” Shekau said in the recording.
“We are not angry with Nigeria. You didn’t kill anyone in Sambisa. We are praying that we don’t change; Koran is our teacher; this is the message we are sending to you. Are you [Buhari] as powerful as God?
“You should know it’s Shekau talking and I’m alive and it’s we that did it, even if King Pharaoh repents, we will not accept it.”

UNIMAID Attack Is An Attack On Education - Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described as a dangerous development Monday’s suicide bomb attack on a mosque at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
He said the attack on the UNIMAID mosque was particularly worrisome, having come at a time when the terrorist group was clearly degraded.
“We cannot afford to be complacent now or in the future,” he also said in a statement released by his media office in Abuja.
The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who condemned the attack, said the attack on UNIMAID was not just about a bomb exploding in a mosque, but that education in the northeast is under attack.
He said Nigeria had not experienced any such act of terrorism perpetrated within a school after the February 2014 attack on the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, in which 40 male students were murdered, as well as the April 2014 kidnapping of over 200 girls from their school dormitory in Chibok.
The Turakin Adamawa also stated that a lack of education was one of the most alarming threats to security in the northeast.
Many of the terrorists, he added, have been shown to be people who have either never had the chance or ability to read the Koran for themselves and interpret the tenets of Islam beyond the false teachings of their terrorist commanders.
“A sound education will provide our youth with the ability to analyse and make informed decisions, an opportunity that many young people in the northeast of Nigeria do not have at present, making it easy for false teachers to control them,” he also said.
Atiku, who condoled with the families of the deceased, students and staff of UNIMAID over the loss of lives, also prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.

Chief Justice of Gambia's Supreme Court, Emmanuel Fagbenle told outgoing President, Yahya Jammeh's lawyer that he can't make the order being sought to stop the January 19 inauguration of Adama Barrow in The Gambia.
Fagbenle said he is unable to preside over the injunction filed by President Yahya Jammeh because he was named in the petition.
The injunction seeks for the Supreme Court to restrain the Chief Justice and any member of the judiciary from swearing in Mr. Barrow and for lawmakers and civil servants from taking part in Barrow’s inauguration.
The Chief Justice also adjourned President Jammeh's election petition hearing until either May or Nov. when judges are expected to form quorum.
Regional leaders had been urging Mr Jammeh to respect the results of the vote, and invited Mr Barrow to address the Africa-France summit in Mali's capital, Bamako on Sunday.
Mr Barrow will now stay in Senegal until Thursday.

Bishop Oyedepo of Winners' Chapel Responds to Video Calling on Members to “Kill” Terrorists Attacking Churches
The Living Faith Church Worldwide, aka Winners’ Chapel International, led by Bishop David Oyedepo , has reacted to a video that surfaced online a couple of days ago, where Oyedepo called on Christians to “kill” terrorists attacking churches in Northern Nigeria.
Oyedepo had made the following statement in the video:
“All the northern forces that are sponsoring these uprisings and killings, I decree the curse of God upon them,” Oyedepo said in the video. “Come on, pray in the spirit everybody. Pray in the spirit, open fire, call down the Holy Ghost fire to descend on the camp of the enemy. Enough is Enough! What demonic devils. What Islamic demons. If Nigeria waits for the church to rise, Nigeria will disappear as a nation.”
“I was even told from report that they were targeting this church. I said what? Even if I was asleep, if you see anybody here kill him! Kill him and spill his blood on the ground. I am saying that to you, what nonsense, what devil. You think our God is an idol? I declare their collaborators cursed. I decree their sponsors cursed!” Oyedepo added.
Oyedepo had also said that if it is God’s will for Nigeria to break up, that it should break up.
In a statement by the Chairman of its Editorial & Media Board,Sheriff F. Folarin, the church said that the video was shot in 2015, and that the cleric was not reacting to the recent killings in Southern Kaduna.
Folarin said that the video was shot “at a Sunday service in the heat of the Boko Haram crisis (before the present administration took office), when churches, including our Northern assemblies were under frequent attacks.”
Our attention has been drawn to a salacious piece of fake news in mainstream and social media platforms, that Bishop David Oyedepo, Founder and President of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel International) charged Christians to take up arms and attack Muslims in the recent Kaduna killings and that if religious and ethnic injustice could not be addressed, Nigeria could as well break up.
The fake news item, which has been trending online for a couple of days, is supposed to be a report depicting the Bishop reacting to the hostilities between Christians and Muslims in southern Kaduna in which unnumbered persons, mostly Christians have been killed. In this report, Bishop Oyedepo purportedly called out and berated the politicians who were fun-watching while the carnage went on or fanning the embers of the violence, and supposedly noted that there was no basis for Nigeria’s continued unity.
For instance, in the online version of one of the popular Nigerian newspapers (Vanguard of January 12, 2017 reported by one Anthony Ogbonna), the Bishop was quoted as saying: “God has anointed me to lead a revolution against the Islamic jihadists” The Bishop is presented to have made very provocative and inciting comments to his congregation, declaring a counter-war against the Fulani and fanatics in the recent Kaduna crisis.
The report is false. The video from which the quotes were taken is a 2015 video at a Sunday service in the heat of the Boko Haram crisis, when churches, including our Northern assemblies were under frequent attacks. This was before the present administration took office. The message bears no relevance to today’s happenings; not even developments of 2016. The reporter(s), either being completely unprofessional, lazy or simply wicked, made the 2015 message look like a 2017 church service message. The trending video is NOT a 2016 or 2017 video.
To this end, we can unequivocally and authoritatively say that this quote, the report and other similar reports do not fit the context of the Kaduna crisis or any developments whatsoever in the last one year. The reports are therefore fake, unbelievably and maliciously fabricated and outright lies. They are tweaked, baseless, and fraudulent.
Bishop Oyedepo has not said, either in private or public, anything related to the Southern Kaduna killings: not now, not hitherto. If there has been anything done, it has been prayer for peace and unity of Nigeria. The intent of the original author(s) or fabricators is best known to them.
However, what is baffling is the degree of lowliness of today’s journalism practice. If any online media seeking patronage or relevance had bolted to the newsroom with this piece of white lie, shouldn’t the supposedly more responsible ones take ethical steps, namely, to confirm, substantiate and ascertain the authenticity of such claim before going to press and avoid joining the bandwagon of sensational and irresponsible journalism?.
Moreover, our church is an open one, with a website that has online media resources, from which all our audio and video tapes and other materials, from time immemorial, can be freely accessed. All our archived videos are unedited. Also, there are hard copies of all the church messages in our libraries and bookstores. Again, we have a Media and Editorial Board that can be consulted at any time. But, which of these mediums did the writers of the fake reports avail themselves of before publishing?
For the records and for posterity, Bishop Oyedepo will not say any of those things in view of current dire straits in which Nigeria has found itself. There are too many problems at hand, which require divine intervention. He will not add to the throes and utter such divisive words. As a father of the nation and a Pan Africanist in his own right as a religious leader whose ministry spreads across the continent and beyond, he is a huge believer in the corporate entity called Nigeria and has been a messenger of national love, hope, peace and unity.
While he feels for the victimized people across the length and breadth of the country and his heart goes to them, he has always worked with government at all levels to keep Nigeria safe and strongly unified. The Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel International) has never been a Yoruba church, or a Southern Nigeria church; it has always been a church for all Nigerian church, a platform where all persons of all walks of life bond in the name of Jesus Christ.
For those who may not know, Bishop Oyedepo’s first major break in Christian ministry was in Kaduna, his second home, where he is a friend and father to millions of people of all religious and ethnic backgrounds. “Indeed, our church has been a catalyst for the Nigerian hope and dream and with its two universities and numerous secondary and primary schools nationwide, the church has made it possible for Nigerians to come closer as one people to rebuild our fatherland.

It is Only Fair for Super Rich Churches to be Taxed – Muslim Cleric
Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Ahmad
Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Ahmad , the Chief Missioner of Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria , has said that it is only fair for churches worth billions of Naira (and Dollars) to be taxed by the federal government. He made this known in an interview with PUNCH ‘s Bayo Akinloye, adding that religious leaders in churches and mosques are answerable to God and the government.
Ahmad said that he is not exonerating any muslim organisation. “There are no super-rich Muslim organisations – I am not aware of any. I am not exonerating Muslim organisations. If there is any super-rich Muslim organisation, then same rules should be applied to it,” Ahmad added.
Read the interview below:
Do you think the regulations of the Financial Reporting Council are specifically targeted at churches?
I think nothing can be farther from the truth. Arguments or thoughts like that are very reckless, illogical and unfair. I am not a political apologist and I do not belong to any political party. This was a law that was enacted and passed during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan when a Christian,
Senator David Mark , was the Senate President. At the time the law was passed nobody said anything; there was no complaint or call for public hearing. There was no apparent criticism of the regulations. It is now only when the implementation was about to start that people are now saying various things. It is satanic to read religion into the codes. Let us look at the fact of the matter; there is the need for transparency and accountability where public funds are involved. In churches and mosques – and churches to a very large extent – public funds are being expended.
It is common knowledge that some of these churches are super-rich with their total worth running into billions of naira, even billions of dollars. Some of them also have businesses. If they are involved in businesses, running universities and expensive secondary schools among other business ventures, then it is only fair for them to be taxed as other Nigerians are taxed. Religion should not be a shield and nobody should hide under the cover of religion to evade tax. Also, it is said that every Sunday there are a number of bullion vans that go to certain churches to take up offerings (money contributed by congregants) and that’s a lot of money.
It is not a bad idea at all that the government should look into this money. It is charity; even funds of charities should be scrutinised. It should be seen that people are giving freely because they are cheerful givers and the question is: is the money used for the purpose it is meant for? I don’t think that should create any problem for either the mosque or the church. It is about transparency. It is about accountability. It is about responsibility. The only area that may appear contentious (in the FRC codes) is when government wants to directly regulate the administration of religions; that will be contentious.
Do you think the government wants to do that?
We have been told that the aim of the law is to forestall the creation of a family religious financial empire – as it was happening in the banks some years ago.
Nigerians can choose to forget things selectively; it is this same law that prevented some select families from controlling banks; that banks should not be a financial empire controlled by some families, holding the public to ransom. Of course, some of these mega religious houses have higher net worth than manufacturing firms and they are usually owned and controlled by the father, wife and the children. They are the virtual owners of everything. Some of these religious houses have universities and they charge outrageous fees. They have some of the most expensive universities in Nigeria. These universities were built from public funds. Therefore, the government should be concerned about how public funds are being expended by religious organisations. I don’t see anything wrong with that. It does not appear as witch-hunt. But if it appears Christians are more affected, to me, it is because this is a matter that concerns Christianity more than Islam. There are no super-rich Muslim organisations – I am not aware of any. I am not exonerating Muslim organisations. If there is any super-rich Muslim organisation, then same rules should be applied to it.
What I think, however, is that the (leadership) succession, the internal administration of religious houses must be left to the religious organisations concerned, governed by their constitutions and by the consensus of the agreement of the people. It will be counter-productive for government to seek to manipulate the leadership of religious houses by determining the tenure (of the founder or leader). I think that’s the only part I found in the regulations to be wanting.
What do you think about the tenure limit in terms of administration rule given by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria?
I think that is very reasonable. For example, we do not have that kind of problem in Islam and in Muslim organisations. So if you say anyone who is above 70 years or has spent 20 years – whichever comes first – should not be a member of a religious organisation’s board of trustees, that’s fine, at least you create opportunities for others. But if you say someone should not continue to be general overseer for more than 20 years, it is interference and that is bad and unnecessary. There are churches where administrative and spiritual leadership or authorities are combined. A general overseer is the spiritual leader, administrative head, financial controller, and the chief executive officer; sometimes he is the treasurer. There is one individual like that who said he received a revelation from God to increase school fees and that anybody who was opposed to that would be dealt severely by God. Of course, we cannot allow things like these to continue.
Would you say the Federal Government succumbed to some vested interests to remove the FRCN’s executive secretary and suspend the FRC regulations?
I have told you I am not a politician and I don’t speculate. I know something must have happened and you as a journalist should find out from the government why exactly they sacked the FRCN boss and suspended the council’s regulations. You should find out whether they have compromised their authority. But again, you know that religious matters are very sensitive and potentially explosive. Therefore, if the government had acted to forestall any breakdown of law and order or to compound the problems that are already bedevilling the country, then I think it is a wise decision. But if it is to please some individuals and groups, then it’s worrisome. Every law must be fair and justifiable.
Hasn’t the Federal Government set a bad precedent allowing Muslim organisations to kick against any law it is not agreeable to?
Well, the same thing will happen. But let us not be speculative. We must not incite one religious group against the other. You can imagine the kind of religious colouration that would have been given to this issue if the FRC codes had been signed and implemented by the current administration (of President Muhammadu Buhari). Even as it is now questions are being asked; Jonathan didn’t implement the regulations (affecting religious groups) why is Buhari implementing it? Our society needs to rise above this stupid narration. We must discuss matters intelligently and objectively too. The mass of the people will be emotional but those in position of authority have the responsibility to be truthful, analytical and factual.
Are you aware of the fact that before the rules of the FRC Codes were applied, all religious leaders and stakeholders were met by the agency?
I am the spiritual leader of one of the largest Muslim organisations in the West African sub-region and nobody invited me to any meeting whatsoever. I am not a signatory to the regulations. I was not aware of it. Some people could have been invited selectively. Probably, if there had been proper consultations, the government would not have found itself in this embarrassing situation.
What advice do you have for religious leaders and organisations?
I think religious leaders need to be transparent, accountable and obedient to properly constituted authority. It is important that religious groups put their houses in order, especially financially. It should not be a place where people are scammed. Religious leaders must pay attention to their lifestyles. They must be like the people they represent. Our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was poor; Jesus Christ was poor. They were models of humility. I am not saying that religious leaders shouldn’t be comfortable but they are not expected to dip their hands into public funds kept in their trust. If they do so, it will not only be bad for the economy, it will be bad for religion and for humanity.
But at least one of the religious leaders said he is only answerable to God. Isn’t that correct?
That is rubbish. We are all answerable to God. But then we are dealing with human beings, so we are answerable to them (too). We are also answerable to the government. If the government is not there to provide a conducive environment for religious groups to operate things may not work out well. If religions have become houses of scammers, the government has a responsibility to ensure proper accountability. Religious leaders should not have unlimited and unfettered access to funds that belong to the public.

I don't know Gideon Okeke - Chiwetalu Agu
Tinsel actor, Gideon Okeke, drew some flak during the week when he took to his social media page to say that veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu should be sanctioned for his use of vulgar words in movies. After several attacks from his fans, Gideon deleted the post.
Chinwetalu Agu has this to say: “Let him (Gideon) leave the censors board to do their job, or does he work with them? Anybody can say anything or come to whatever conclusion they please. The viewers would judge whether I use vulgar words in movies or not.
People who watch movies are the ultimate judges. I do not even know who Gideon Okeke is; I do not think I have ever heard his name. If people like AMAA are talking to me about this, I would know how to react appropriately. But this is an individual I do not even know. He has his own style, and I have mine which has won me awards all over the continent and even beyond.
This is the first time anyone will be accusing me of vulgarity. Others have been hailing me. What we do is satire; we are re-enacting what happens in the society.
People I have encountered and those who have called me have been full of praise for me. It will also interest you to know that I am the highest award-winning actor in Africa. I have 47 awards to my name; and the second person behind me has not even got up to 10 awards.
Two years ago, I took two cows to church to celebrate and thank God for giving me the highest number of awards in Africa. Secondly, I have done 727 productions. It is a rare record in Africa. I am also the current holder of the Best Veteran Actor award which was given to me in Ohio, United States of America.
People like Olu Jacobs and other time-tested Nollywood practitioners were nominated for that same award but I was chosen. My record is the best in all ramifications. I have spent about 35 years in the movie industry, and I am a big pillar of Nollywood.”
“Even former President Goodluck Jonathan confessed about three years ago that whenever he travels out of the country, foreign leaders ask after people like me, Jim Iyke, and Genevieve Nnaji. Because of that, he put N3bn into Nollywood’s account, and asked the former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to manage the funds for Nollywood. This fund is still open to Nollywood practitioners.
It goes without saying that I am very big in Nollywood. I am a father, legend, and icon,” he said.
Calls put through to Gideon were not answered or returned as of the time of filing this report.

First Military Coup of January 15, 1966, led by Major Kaduna Nzeogwu
"In the early hours of Jan 15 1966, 51 years ago today, the man in this picture, Major Kaduna Nzeogwu, led a coup of junior army officers of mainly of Igbo extraction. Many were killed that night. The coup failed but the issues he, and later in 1991 Major Gideon Orkar raised in his own coup, are still pertinent.
When will the yoke of internal colonialism and subjugation be finally broken in our country? I have always condemned Nzeogwu and, to a lesser degree Orkar, but given what is happening in Nigeria today I have to say that both of them were not just heroes but men that fought to ensure that we were freed from what is nothing less than injustice, wickedness and slavery.
They failed in their quest for power and they were both killed: one was shot at the stake by General Babangida's governmrnt and the other was shot on the war front by Federal troops whilst fighting for his beloved Biafra.
As far as I am concerned they are both martyrs and their deaths shall never be in vain.
Continue to rest in peace O Christian soldiers and martyrs of the faith. In the new Nigeria we shall name streets, buildings and airports after you"- FFK. .

Gambia Talks Fail As President Refuses To Step Down
The Gambia's President-elect, Adama Barrow, has left the country after talks failed to persuade President Yahya Jammeh to step down.
Nigeria's president flew to Banjul to try to broker a deal but Mr Jammeh would not relinquish power.
Mr Barrow is now heading to Mali, where he will meet West African leaders attending a summit there.
The former estate agent wants to resolve the transitional deadlock so he can be sworn in next week.
President Jammeh's term ends on Thursday.
The African Union has said it will no longer recognise Mr Jammeh's rule beyond this point.
Nigerian leader Muhammadu Buhari had flown to The Gambia's capital, Banjul, to try to broker a deal, as the region fears the consequences of a non-peaceful transition.
Ecowas, a 15-nation bloc of West African states that organised the delegation, has it said it would consider removing Mr Jammeh using military force if he refuses to step aside.
Mr Barrow is travelling to Mali with the Ecowas delegation for further discussions this weekend.
Mr Jammeh had initially admitted defeat after the December election. But shortly afterwards he called for the result to be annulled.
The 51-year-old leader seized power in the country in 1994 and has been accused of human rights abuses, although he has held regular elections.
A lawyer for Mr Jammeh filed a request with the Supreme Court on Thursday, asking for an injunction to block Mr Barrow's swearing-in.
The Supreme Court is unable to hear the challenge until May because of a shortage of judges, and Mr Jammeh says he will not step down until then.
There are growing fears that the uncertainty could cause a refugee exodus.
Thousands of Gambians, mostly women and children, have already crossed the border into neighbouring Senegal and further afield to Guinea-Bissau, where they do not require a visa, officials say.
Mr Barrow won 43.3% of the vote in December's election, compared with Mr Jammeh's 39.6%. A third candidate, Mama Kandeh, got 17.1%.

Here are what they are saying:
Bloodbath :3 Dead, Scores Injured as Hausa Fulani Clash Turns Bloody in Uyo
A bloody clash between Hausa\Fulani scavengers and some local residents of Itiam Etoi in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has left no fewer than three persons dead and scores injured.
The incident, which happened on Wednesday, saw a Hausa scrap dealer transporting a power generator on wheelbarrow and was accosted around the Udo Udoma area of Itiam Etoi, of the state by some locals.
A heated argument ensued during which the Hausa scrap dealer, who reportedly described the incident as harassment, mobilized his men and launched a reprisal attack.
They were said to have used all manner of weapons in the rift which caused tension in the community.
An eyewitness, Mr. Okon Effiong, told Vanguard: “When the ‘area boys’ stopped the Hausa man, they asked him for settlement. He refused to pay and it led to a fight and a reprisal attack from the Hausa\Fulani settlers in the area.
“They arrived in large numbers with machetes and clubs and started cutting anyone they found on the road. Some of them carried iron rods with which they destroyed properties and chased shop owners away.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Cordelia Nwawe, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, assured that peace had already been restored to the affected community.
According to her, some victims of the fight have been discharged from the hospitals.
