Same sex marriage tops agenda in Nigeria’s new constitution
Lagos - The National Assembly on Friday, assured Nigerians that a new constitution will be ready between February and March, 2017, reports Vanguard
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman, House Ad-Hoc Committee on Constitution amendment, Yussuf Lasun speaking at the opening ceremony of a working session/retreat of the House Committee on Constitution review in Abeokuta Ogun State, disclosed that issues of legalizing same sex marriage, demand for more in the scheme of things and access to control of resources as well as local government creation will top the agenda in the alteration process.
He said, “It pleases me to inform you that the Committee has been working tirelessly to ensure that the Fourth Alteration Bill is given speedy passage and subsequent assent by the President.”
He explained that because the process started late Nigerians could not contribute to the constitutions alterations, and in order to avoid the mistakes the leadership of the 8th assembly wants to start the process early enough.
