Breakthrough: Michael Okpara varsity discovers cure for HIV/AIDS

Prof. Francis Otunta, the Vice Chancellor (VC), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in Abia, has confirmed the discovery of a new drug for the treatment and cure of HIV/AIDS.
Otunta told newsmen at the university campus on Wednesday that the finding followed years of scientific research by the institution.
He said that the breakthrough was made by Prof. Maduike Ezeibe, a researcher in the university.
According to him, Ezeibe had presented the drug to the University management, Senate and Council, where he explained the processes he went through to arrive at his finding.
Minister of Health, Prof Issac Adewole during his HIV test.
The VC also said that Ezeibe had equally presented the drug to his colleagues in the medical field and nobody had contradicted his finding.
“Prof. Ezeibe is a researcher in Veterinary Medicine and one may wonder how he discovered a drug to cure a human ailment,” he said.
He commended Ezeibe for the breakthrough, saying: “He has brought honour to the University and we are proud of him.”
Otunta said that the university was in the process of mass producing the drug for further clinical trials on persons living with HIV/AIDS in the country.
Ezeibe, who is a professor of Veterinary Medicine and Clinical Virology, said that the drug was produced with Aluminum Silicate and Magnesium Silicate (Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate).
He said that the two minerals “are already in use as medicines for the treatment of various animal and human diseases”.
He said that 10 persons living with the disease, “who volunteered’’, were made to apply through their doctor to the VC.
“They were treated daily with the Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate (50 mg/kg),” he said.
Ezeibe said that the volunteers were subjected to monthly tests for viral loads and CD4-lymphocyte counts.
“With the antiviral effects of the medicine, its ability to reach all cells (as nanoparticles) and the lymphocytes, there is no more hiding place (sanctuary) for HIV,” he said.
He said that the medicine had been used to potentiate Ampicilin, Chloroquine, Piperazine and Sulphadimidin, among others, and could be a major foreign exchange earner for Nigeria, if approved by relevant authorities.
According to him, “local and international pharmaceutical companies would find the product as a veritable raw material”.
Ezeibe said that he presented the research findings to the World Virology Conference in Atlanta in 2015, and Antonio (Texas) in 2016.
Besides, he said that the results of the laboratory tests had been published in many international scientific journals, including the British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, among several others.
He said that he was also about to sign a memorandum of understanding with a U.S.-based Scientific Research Publishing, publishers of World Journal of AIDS, for the publication of his book “How I came about the cure for HIV/AIDS”.
Ezeibe, who said that the medicine was patented in August 2014 in Nigeria, called on the Federal Government to help him to secure international patency for the drug.
He said: “If commercialised, the Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate would become an alternative for petroleum to the Nigerian economy.”

Late UNIMAID Prof’s. brother writes letter to Boko Haram leader, Shekau

Malam Usman Abbas, a younger brother to late Prof. Aliyu Usman Mani, who was killed during a suicide bomb attack at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), has said Abubakar Shekau is a “dead man waiting to go to hell”.
Usman stated this in an open letter to Abubakar Shekau, factional leader of the Boko Haram insurgents, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Thursday.
“I listened to your audio message in which you claimed responsibility for the suicide bomb attack that killed my brother Professor Aliyu Usman Mani and others during subh (early morning) prayer at the University of Maiduguri Staff quarters mosque on Monday January 16, 2017.
“I am addressing this letter to you and calling you “dead” because your filthy, satanic, useless and lost soul is just wandering on earth waiting to get to hell where you have earned yourself permanent residency in the deepest and most painful part of it.
“Contrary to your claim in most of your video or audio messages, the innocent people you kill are better than you in the sight of both human beings and Allah and you are the one surely going to hell.
“Your soul will never smell heaven.
“The tears I shed on the death of my brother were for my personal loss. For the deceased however, I am extremely happy because he died in a mosque, praying (in ruku’u), fasting on a Monday and was killed by your bomb.
“Given a choice, I would not mind the same type of death.
“His death was very painful but I want to assure you that you cannot stop us from going to the mosque to pray, neither can you stop us from seeking for and obtaining knowledge and education (both Islamic and western).
“We have no doubt lost a brother, father, grandfather, Professor, gentleman, pillar of support, guardian and a good man but we have gained a martyr.
“We are very proud of what Professor Aliyu Usman Mani achieved in life and in death, we are certain he died in one of the best possible ways to exit this world and that his hereafter is even better.
“In death, Professor Aliyu’s status was elevated, his popularity soared, his name heard beyond the academia, beyond the shores of Nigeria, his burial was attended by hundreds of people including my humble self and others from all walks of life prayed for him in private and in congregations at places of worship.
“You cannot change or take away the good things people said and are still saying about him neither can you change the bad things they said and are still saying about you.
“Even your parents, children and relations if you have any, cannot be proud of what you are doing not to talk of the country and Islam as a religion.
“You can only deceive the gullible, uneducated in both Islamic and western education and innocent boys and girls who did not know what they were doing into carrying out your devilish plans.
“If you are convinced that what you are doing is Islam and Almighty Allah is truly with you, then show your face, operate from a known and traceable address, use only male adults and do not brainwash small boys and girls into carrying out attacks on your behalf while you hide like a rat in a hole and claim heroism afterwards.
“I say you are already dead because “alive”, you the killer of Professor Aliyu Usman Mani, cannot show your face physically, cannot move around freely, cannot sleep peacefully, cannot command respect willfully.
” You cannot do anything normally, you cannot enjoy life fully, you can only live in the bush with your cousins the wild animals tamely, and will surely die miserably without the privilege of a proper burial,” said Usman in the letter.

The politicians were arrested early this week by detectives and troops from Operation Lafiya Dole.
One of them, who is also an Islamic spritualist, fled the state but was arrested along Maiduguri-Jos road, sources told TheCable.
The second politician was said to be a thug (called ECOMOG) and an aide to some politicians in the state.

44 year old Essam El Hadary’s save sends Egypt to #AFCON2017 Final

Essam Kamal Tawfik El Hadary of Egypt celebrates victory during the African Nations Cup Semi Final match between Burkina Faso and Egypt at Stade de L’Amitie on February 1, 2017 in Libreville, Gabon.

Egypt’s goalkeeper and captain Essam El Hadary on Wednesday emerged the shooting range hero to send the Pharaohs through to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final match.
Egypt went through to the AFCON final in Gabon after beating Burkina Faso 4-3 on penalty kicks in the semi-finals.
El Hadary, who turned 44 this month, is already the oldest footballer to play at a Nations Cup and he showed he was not just there for the record.
The match itself was an epic, with neither team having tasted defeat in Gabon, and seven-time champions Egypt were yet to concede a goal.
The match in Libreville ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time, with Mohamed Salah ’s 66th minute opener for Egypt cancelled out by Aristide Bance seven minutes later.
A sumptuous strike by Salah in the 66th minute looked to have record seven-time champions Egypt heading into Sunday’s final.
But Burkina Faso were level just seven minutes later, the first conceded by the Egyptians at this Cup of Nations, and there was no further scoring.
With no further scoring it went to a shoot-out where Essam El Hadary’s save from Bertrand Traore ’s last kick for Burkina Faso gave Egypt the victory.
They will now play against either Ghana or Cameroon in Sunday’s final.

Donald Trump’s Visit to the U.K. Puts the Queen in a ‘Very Difficult Position’

President Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain has put the Queen in a “very difficult position,” the former head of the U.K. Foreign Office claims.
Lord Peter Ricketts says the visit, announced by British Prime Minister Theresa May while meeting President Trump in Washington on Friday, should be downgraded from a state visit to spare Her Majesty any controversy.
As a UK petition to stop President Trump’s planned visit to Britain reached more than 1.5 million signatures and thousands protested across Britain on Monday, Lord Ricketts, in a letter to the The Times of London , said the invitation so early in Trump’s presidency was “premature.” He also added May must “move fast” to protect the Queen from more controversy.
Lord Ricketts said that it is unprecedented for U.S. presidents to be given a state visit in their first year of office – and said he questioned whether Trump is “specially deserving of this exceptional honour.”
Adding, “It would have been far wiser to wait to see what sort of president he would turn out to be before advising the Queen to invite him. Now the Queen is put in a very difficult position.”
Lord Ricketts spoke out following President Trump’s
ban of refugees and citizens of seven mainly Muslim countries from the United States signed in an executive order hours after May’s visit.
The Times claimed that Buckingham Palace was privately unhappy about the perception the Queen was being dragged into a political event.
Regardless of the protests, May has insisted that the state visit will go ahead.
Lord Ricketts, 64, says that the decision to rush forward an invitation risks breaching the convention that while the Palace acts on ministers’ advice, the government stops the Queen from “getting drawn into political controversy.”
Conservative Muslim lawmaker Sayeeda Warsi told BBC radio that Britain should question whether it should roll out the red carpet for “a man who has no respect for women, disdain for minorities… and whose policies are rooted in divisive rhetoric,” according to the AFP.
On Monday, May told a press conference in Dublin that “the United States is a close ally of the U.K., we work together across many areas of mutual interest and we have that special relationship between us.”
Adding, “I have issued that invitation for a state visit to President Trump to the UK and that invitation stands.”
Along with the Queen, Prince Charles , along with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall , will take a prominent place in the visit. He normally meets the visiting head of state and brings them to Horse Guards Parade where there is the formal welcome by his mother the queen. Then, a lunch at Buckingham Palace typically follows.
The prince has made no secret of his belief that climate change is one of the key issues of our time. A royal source previously told PEOPLE that Charles will not be stopped from raising the issue with Trump, but he will do so when it’s “entirely appropriate to the situation.

Teacher Flogs Primary 3 Student To Death For Not Reading A Sentence

Joy Wangare, from Macadamia Primary School in Solio Settlement Scheme, kenya has died after she was caned by her teacher.
A complaint filed with the police indicates that the 10-year old student died over the weekend following a beating by a teacher on Thursday.
Witnesses claimed she was caned for failing to read a sentence as directed by the teacher. Kieni East OCPD Michael Mbaluku said the report made at Naro Moru Police Station indicated that after the caning, the teacher invited other pupils to punish the girl further.
"The girl's grandmother reported an assault case against the teacher and we gave her a note so she could seek medical treatment. The reports we have indicate that she was admitted for a few days before dying while undergoing treatment at Mary Immaculate Mission Hospital in Mweiga," said Mr Mbaluku.
Angry parents stormed the school demanding the arrest and prosecution of the suspect teacher.
Mbaluku said investigations into the death had commenced and appealed to the parents to be patient.
"We cannot rule out murder because the circumstances surrounding her death are still within the time frame provided by the law, but we are urging residents to be patient and await the outcome of the investigations, including a postmortem report," he said.

President Donald Trump has fired the US Attorney General for not Defending his Immigration Orders | White House calls her “weak”

According to several reports, President Trump has fired the US attorney general for defiance of his Immigration Orders.
Telegraph reports that Trump fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates after she ordered Justice Department lawyers to stop defending the president’s controversial immigration orders.
Sally Yates, who had been appointed by former President Obama, said she was “not convinced that the executive order is lawful”.
A couple of hours ago she had sent a letter to the Justice Department Lawyers saying ““I am responsible for ensuring that the positions we take in court remain consistent with this institution’s solemn obligation to always seek justice and stand for what is right. At present, I am not convinced that the defence of the executive order is consistent with these responsibilities.”
The White House press office said in a statement that Yates “has betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States.”
The statement called Ms Yates an Obama administration appointee “who is weak on borders and very weak on illegal immigration.”

BREAKING :Many feared killed as suicide bomber attacks worshippers opposite UNIMAID

There was a suicide attack on worshippers on Tuesday as a suspected male suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) during congregational Morning Prayer at a mosque in Dalori quarter opposite the University of Maiduguri.
According to report, many worshippers feared killed and injured.
The spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency,NEMA, Sani Datti confirmed the incident in a message.
"There was a reported case of explosions at Dalori quarters, Maiduguri, Borno State. Our Search and Rescue officers are already on their way to the scene, detail later," he said

Apostle Suleiman :Talk to your boys, Fulani herdsmen, to stop the killing of Christians in Kaduna.

The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman has said that Kaduna state Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai knows the Fulani herdsmen doing the killings in Kaduna state. The cleric said since the Governor had also confessed that he paid the herdsmen to stop killing Christians in the state, he must therefore be made to produce them to answer to crimes of murder and other crimes.
Suleman had also asked the Federal Government to compel Governor El-Rufai to produce the Fulani herdsmen so as to disabuse the minds of Nigerians that Christians are not the target of President Muhammadu’s administration.
Apostle Suleman and Governor El-Rufai
He said that failure to compel El-Rufai to produce the herdsmen who purportedly collected money from the Kaduna State Government is an indication of the insincerity of the Buhari administration.
“The Governor of Kaduna State confessed that he paid money to some Fulani herdsmen as compensation to stop the killings in Southern Kaduna.
“That means he knows those who have committed atrocities against Christians. He must be made to produce them to answer to charges of murder and other crimes,” the Apostle said.
Recall that following the reported utterances of the apostle wherein he told his members to defend themselves should any herdsmen come to attack them in the church, the Department of States Services, DSS invited Suleman to report at its office in Abuja on Monday. as at the time of filing this report, Apostle Suleman has reported at the DSS office in Abuja for interrogation.
However, Some Christian youths under the aegis of Christian Youths Project have condemned the invitation to the Apostle by the Department of State Services(DSS). The Christian youths said that the utterance of the Pastor on the pulpit should not warrant any arrest, adding that there was no need to misconstrue the statement of the Apostle.
The National President of the Project, Mr Pepple Ibiwari-Junior, made the call in a press briefing on Monday in Port Harcourt .
He noted that the utterance of the man of God was a wakeup call on Christians to be on the alert in case of any possible attack.
He advised the relevant authorities not to ridicule or cause any public embarrassment to the clergy held in high esteem by members of the public.
“ We strongly and unequivocally condemn in totality the ridicule and public embarrassment of Apostle Suleman Johnson by the DSS,” he added.
Ibiwari-Junior urged the DSS not to treat the Apostle as a common criminal but to accord him some respect.
He said that religious matters were of delicate nature and as such should be treated with caution to avoid misrepresentation of facts.
The president stressed that his members condemned the continued killing of Christians .
Ibiwari-Junior called on Christians to be vigilant and to be security conscious always to avoid being victims of religious killings and other forms of attack.
“The gospel of Jesus Christ advocates love and peace and not violence, Christian youths do not subscribe to violence or killings under any guise.
“ While we appreciate the DSS and other security agencies in ensuring peace and security in Nigeria, we call for an intensified effort to put a final stop to the killings of innocent Christians by Fulani herdsmen, ‘’ he said.
The president urged the authorities to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the killing of innocent Christians in the north and in other parts of the nation.

DELE MOMODU : WHO WANTS PRESIDENT BUHARI DEAD

Fellow Nigerians, please allow me to say wherever two or more Nigerians are gathered these days the topic of discussion must, naturally, dovetail to our dear President’s state of health and the consequential suggestion that our country is ailing as a result. This controversy didn’t start today. I remember how Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose, the enfant terrible of Ekiti State, raised a horrific alarm, just before the 2015 election that eventually catapulted Major General Buhari back to power. He had screamed to the whole world, indeed to high heavens, that the then APC Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, had suffered brain damage and that he had to be flown abroad in an air ambulance for treatment. I was in London at that time and I remember making frantic calls to impeccable sources who I believe would know the truth. I was able to obtain pictures of visitors to the modest apartment General Buhari was staying at the time, which was somewhere in the high brow Mayfair. The visitors included Nasir El Rufai and Kayode Fayemi and they were able to dispel the ugly rumour even if some doubting Thomases still believed the worst had happened as Fayose continued to spur them on.

It is about two years since that happened and it doesn’t seem much has changed. The only difference is that Buhari is now the President of Africa’s biggest nation and any news about him would be of greater interest to Nigerians, wherever they may be, and indeed the rest of the world. Since assuming power as Executive President, whenever the President has travelled abroad on vacation, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive with all manner of people espousing their own theories as to what is wrong with the President and the sort of treatment he has gone to receive. This trip is no different. It has been compounde by the fact that it was announced oin this occasion that the President was going on a medical vacation as he would take the opportunity of his holiday to see his doctors. This is why I believe the President’s information managers should try harder to dispel the rumours. They left the door ajar with the small piece of information they provided. Mischief makers would make capital out of this once nothing more was said about the matter. There is no big deal telling us how the President is spending his holiday, where he is staying and so on. If indeed he is seeing doctors for a routine check up or worse still his health is failing like happens to all mortals, there is nothing to be ashamed of. We should be provided with the information and updated regularly with what is happening. If the President had routinely gone into hospital Nigerians should know the hospital as a matter of right what hospital he has gone to and if possible the doctors attending to him. The doctors should be allowed to inform the public as much as possible without jeopardising his right to the little privacy that he has left. The citizens of Nigeria and the rest of the world are anxious to know every little information about the President of the most populous black nation and they should be obliged.

What seems clear to me is that those in charge of disseminating information about the President do not seem to realise that once you become President of Nigeria, especially now in the era of social media, you become a gold fish with no hiding place.  The President of Nigerian is no longer a private person upon assumption of office.  His life belongs to Nigeria and Nigerians.  That is the simple truth that the President and his publicists must realise and accept. It was in the dark ages when people think that they are protecting the President and Nigerians by not telling us about things happening to the President and around him.
If the President’s PR people are not obliging Nigerians then, the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo should take charge properly by addressing the public and allaying the fears of the people. He is a very cerebral person who must appreciate the debilitating effect that the kind of stories being peddled about is having on the polity and the economy.  The has led to people even carrying some salacious tales that some infernal cabal have asked Professor Yemi Osinbajo to resign in order that a Northerner can act as President and to prevent a Yoruba man from becoming President in the event that the worst happens to the President.  The reason that such fiction is able to thrive is because people feel that the Vice President has not come out powerfully enough to demonstrate that he is truly the Acting President. For many, his body language leaves too many questions unanswered. They claim that he either appears like someone in the dark about events around him or that he is just being too careful not to send wrong signals. The way we disseminate news still leaves much to be desired. We seem to treat power with too much trepidation and thus allow touts to take over and rule the airwaves and cause confusion all over the place.  I know that is not the case because the Vice President is not that kind of person.  He is a careful but deliberate man who brings his intelligence and experience to bear on all that he is doing.  However, it is clear to me that he has not been faced with this kind of dilemma before. I am sure that the Vice President knows that neither the President nor himself have any real private life again. It is clear that President’s handlers do nt know this.  I was surprised to hear what my brother, the Special Adviser to the President, Femi Adesina, had to say about this matter suggesting that it was left to the President to tell us what he wished about himself, his vacation and his health.
Silence is not always golden. It can be somewhat destructive if care is not taken. I’m reasonably certain that President Buhari is on a short vacation as announced when he was travelling. Even if I do not know exactly where he is, I believe he is resting and possibly seeing his doctors for an annual check up. Why make a sog and dance or fetish of this? President Buhari is human after-all. It is sad that we often make mountains out of molehills by our actions, inactions and ill-actions. Nigeria ought to have learnt useful lessons from the days prior to the death of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. This was how Nigeria was thrown into total confusion in 2010 because of the inordinate ambitions of a few people. I believe we have come a long way since then.  I thought we had established that our public officers, especially our leaders, are in the spotlight and the full glare of the citizenry.  That is the price you pay for leadership. You cannot expect to be in that role and then want to be a private citizen.  If you want that, then you stay in the confines of your sitting room or the “other room”!  You certainly do not aspire to public office, if that is your desire.  There are very good reasons why we need to know what is happening to our leaders, especially the President and the Vice President. Our Leaders forget that they are Public servants. Emphasis being on the word “Public”.  They are being maintained by our hard earned money, tax payers money, whether they are on holiday, or on a routine medical check or a major medical operation. We therefore have a right to the information that is presently being hidden from us. If the President does not care as some of his aides are suggesting, we care! It is our country and we asked him to lead us.
The state of health of the President, Vice President, and other major leaders in the executive, the legislature and the judiciary are of paramount concern to us.  If they are ill and unable to govern, legiste or dispense justice, we, the people, must know.  They cannot be patched up.  It is them, the elected leaders, and not their cohorts, associates and acolytes that we elected to govern and legislate for us. Those associates, kitchen cabinet members or other surrogates cannot overreach the Constitution and govern on behalf of the President or Governors.  That is what almost happened during President Yar’Adua’s last days. We vigorously resisted those that sought to hijack the government at that time and succeeded in driving them out of Aso Rock.  Nobody can take us back to those dark days. We are not prepared for anybody to set us back.
The Nigerian Constitution is clear on what would happen in case of any eventuality to the President. No Jupiter can change that unilaterally, not even the Vice President. Fortunately, Prof Osinbajo is an esteemed and erudite lawyer.  I am positive that he will not allow the Constitution to be suborned.  He is a God-fearing and courageous man and will defend the laws of our land as he has pledged to do. I expect that President Buhari will do the same.  That is why he has consistently transmitted a message to the Senate that the Vice-President is to act for him when he is away on vacation.
What happened in The Gambia just last week should have shown clearly that the days of reckless rascality in government and governance in Africa are gone forever. Fortunately, Nigeria and its leaders have taken the lead in enthroning democracy in other countries, cue Charles Taylor and Liberia, Gbagbo and Ivory Coast and now Jammeh and The Gambia, and so cannot now turn around to do the opposite in our own country.
On a more serious note, someone needs to talk some sense to the ruling party, APC. In case, the party apparatchik are still living in denial, it should be told in very clear terms that APC is flailing and floundering aimlessly and dangerously. The party is not living up to expectations. Nigerians are suffering and crying. No excuse can change the fact that most of the promises we made have not been kept. Volunteers and non-party members like us are being harassed and confronted on the streets by those who feel let down by a government we helped to midwife. It is shocking that a party which coasted to power on the wave of a significant majority of popular votes has virtually wasted and frittered away its goodwill so fast. Something drastic and urgent has to be done to arrest the slide into oblivion. The best and most charitable friends of APC would admit privately, if not publicly, that this government has failed to sparkle, in fact, that it has been too lacklustre and sluggish. It is as if it feels it has all the time in the world. Why is APC unable to fly?
There are just too many questions begging for answers and APC has stubbornly refused to own up to its many shortcomings and seek help from within and outside. If you not know the way forward, one should be able to retrace his steps before it is too late. Those who invested in APC did so in the hope that it was coming to demolish the behemoth called PDP and make life better for most Nigerians. Never did we campaign that the journey was going to be an Israelite one that would take a total of 40 years instead of four. I believe Nigerians are very patient and understanding people but they often justifiably get impatient whenever they feel someone has taken them for a ride. This is why it may seem they are kicking fitfully and restlessly against the APC and unable to endure the hardships they currently face.
True change is needed and maybe the way to start being accountable is to publish details of the President’s state of health so we truly know where we are!

Malala Yousafzai: President Donald Trump, Do Not Close U.S. Doors To Defenceless Refugee Children Seeking Asylum

Malala Yousafzai took to Facebook on Friday asking President Donald Trump to not close U.S. doors to defenseless refugee children seeking asylum in the country.
Her plea comes after Trump signed an executive order that indefinitely suspends entry for Syrian refugees and limits the entry flow of other refugees into the U.S. by what the president calls “extreme vetting,” according to CNN.
Malala Yousafzai's statement on President Trump's latest executive order on refugees:
"I am heartbroken that today President Trump is closing the door on children, mothers and fathers fleeing violence and war. I am heartbroken that America is turning its back on a proud history of welcoming refugees and immigrants — the people who helped build your country, ready to work hard in exchange for a fair chance at a new life.
I am heartbroken that Syrian refugee children, who have suffered through six years of war by no fault of their own, are singled-out for discrimination.
I am heartbroken for girls like my friend Zaynab, who fled wars in three countries — Somalia, Yemen and Egypt — before she was even 17. Two years ago she received a visa to come to the United States. She learned English, graduated high school and is now in college studying to be a human rights lawyer.
Zaynab was separated from her little sister when she fled unrest in Egypt. Today her hope of being reunited with her precious sister dims.
In this time of uncertainty and unrest around the world, I ask President Trump not to turn his back on the world’s most defenseless children and families."

Buhari’s latest picture in London attracts social media comments

A cross section of Nigerians have continued to comment on the new latest pictures of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently on a 10-day working leave in London, UK.
The new picture, which was posted on Friday night, showed the president in a relax mood with some of his visitors, including Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun.
Others in the picture are some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The picture shows Buhari live in London, contrary to malicious rumours by some Nigerians in the social media that he was either dead or ‘under intensive care’.
Some of the comments captured over the sudden emergence of the picture include: “Despite all attempts to debunk the rumours, the wicked mischief makers have continued to spread their falsehood about President Buhari.
“Here he is, in fulfillment of their death wish under intensive care.”
Mr Kingsley Nwaeze, a social commentator, condemned those spreading dangerous rumours about the president’s health conditions.
He said on his twitter post: “My dear don’t mind the fools. They are the enemies of this country and we shall overcome them. I stand with my President.
“Imaging the stupidity of some people to wish death for a president of their country. How callous?
“There are two things that you don’t mock anybody with.. Death and old age…Nobody can stop them from happening…you become old and eventually die! May God save guard and protect PMB now and always.’’
Mr Usman Mohammed Ismail in his post said: “Have you heard about the guy that wrote R.I.P on Buhari’s Photo on twitter?
“The Guy was arrested and taken to court and the Judge asked him what he meant by R.I.P? The Guys says he meant REMAIN IN POWER’’.
Buhari, who left Nigeria on January 19, is scheduled to return home on Feb. 6.

Sexual Harassment: Indian Governor resigns after Staff Accuse him of turning his Office into a “Young Ladies Club”

V. Shanmuganathan
The Governor of India’s North-eastern state of Meghalaya, V. Shanmuganathan has resigned from his post in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct, officials said on Friday.
The allegation of sexual misconduct was leveled at him by his staff and a female job applicant.
The 67-year-old Shanmuganathan tendered his resignation on Thursday night.
Nearly 100 members of his staff petitioned to the federal government that Shanmuganathan had “compromised the dignity’’ of the governor’s office and turned it into a “young ladies club’’.
The letter accused Shanmuganathan of hiring or posting only women in his staff and turning the Raj Bhavan (Governor’s office) into a place where “young ladies come and go at will with direct orders from the Governor’’.
The letters were sent to the Indian president, prime minister and home minister seeking the removal of the governor.
Shanmuganathan has denied the allegations.
Ahead of his resignation, women activists and civil society staged a protest in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, against Shanmuganathan asking him to step down.
The allegations of sexual harassment against Shanmuganathan were reported in local media as well.
A local newspaper, Highland Post from Meghalaya carried a report accusing Shanmuganathan of molesting a woman during an interview for job at the governor’s office.
“The governor allegedly made advances by hugging and kissing her and even offering her part time or full time job inside the Raj Bhavan,’’ the newspaper, quoting the victim as saying.
The woman said the incident took place in a fancy room in Raj Bhavan and no staff was present at the time.
Shanmughanathan was appointed the governor of Meghalaya in 2015.
Prior to assuming the office, Shanmughanathan was senior member of Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) , the ideological fountainhead of India’s ruling
Bhartiya Janta Party.

In 1984, the CIA predicted correctly that Babangida would lead the coup that would overthrow Buhari.
According to information in the files in NAIJ.com’s possession, the CIA predicted correctly the ouster of Buhari by a coup and the fact that it would be carried out by former military head of state Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida who the files also tipped as the next head of state.
The CIA report, which was compiled in December 1984, noted that Buhari’s removal was imminent because of the declining political and economic situation of Nigeria at the time and which Buhari has could not improve on.

The woman was said to have left her home on December 28, 2016 to drown herself in River Benue and sadly, her body was discovered on January 2, 2017 by police. When she was leaving the house on the said day before her alleged death, she was said to have asked for forgiveness from her two children. She also sent the children to plead with their dad on her behalf to forgive her.
According to the deceased’s neighbors at Vandeikiya street, High level in Makurdi, she had borrowed about N400,000.00 from different micro finance banks and invested it in MMM only for the scheme to announce a freeze on cashing out a few days after her investment.

Samson David, the deceased’s widower confirmed that he was aware that his wife took loans, but he could not confirm if she actually invested it in MMM.
“Towards November and December, 2016,
I discovered she took loan from four places over N400,000.00, but I don’t know what she actually did with the money because this time there was nothing in the shop to suggest that she invested the money into her business but truly she took loans”.
The state police spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu confirmed that the police actually recovered the body of a woman from River Benue. She was laid to mother earth on Friday, January 20, at the Ankpa ward public cemetery.

US Appeals Court Upholds Kashamu’s Extradition For Drug Offence

A US Appeals Court on Monday said Senator Buruji Kashamu must face drug charges leveled against him.
Chicago prosecutors accuse Kashamu, representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, of heading a heroin trafficking ring in the 1990s.
Kashamu, elected to the Senate on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform in 2015 despite being a fugitive from US justice since 1998, argues that prosecutors want his dead brother instead.
In an April 2015 filing, the 68-year-old asked a district court to prevent his “abduction abroad by US authorities.”
The US court, however, dismissed the complaint, and the US Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the ruling Monday.
It said US agents’ attempt to arrest Kashamu in coordination with local authorities would not constitute “an attempted abduction.”
Judge Richard Posner wrote that nothing in the law prevents US agents from “being present when foreign officers are effecting an arrest or from assisting foreign officers who are effecting an arrest.”

Bank teller accused of stealing $164,000 acquitted Stanbic fails to bring CCTV footage to court

A STANDBIC Bank teller was accused of stealing $164,000 from cash vaults was Wednesday acquitted after a Harare court ruled that prosecutors failed to prove their case.
Aaron Rashama, 45, of New Bluffhill in Harare was facing theft of trust property charges and out of custody on $1000 bail.
Despite insisting that Rashama was captured on CCTV taking the money, prosecutors failed to produce the video footage in court.
“Whether it was deliberate or pure ineptitude one cannot tell,” magistrate Elijah Makomo said.
“It is alleged that the accused could be seen entering the vault on his own on the CCTV video footage but no one cared to bring the footage leaving the court to doubt as to whether the accused was indeed captured entering the vault on the day in question.”
According to the State, Rashama was in charge of the cash vault and his duties included cashing and deposits, vault custody, foreign exchange and query resolution.
Prosecutors alleged that on January 18 last year, Rashama received and signed for $245,060 and $14,173, 75 vault and canister cash respectively.
Court heard that the money reflected in Rashama’s cash register as well as on the bank’s computer system.
On May 24, Rashama reported for work as usual, but left immediately without the branch manager’s permission.
After realising that he had taken too long coming back, the branch manager Joyce Mhlanga phoned Rashama on his mobile phone but the phone went unanswered and was later on switched off.
Court heard that Mhlanga notified the Stanbic’s head of financial crime control, Continue Mudekwa, and the investigations manager, Stanley Shaninga.
The pair visited the branch and noticed that Rashama had also taken with him keys to the vault and canister.
Using spare keys, they discovered that $4,252 was in the vault instead of the $154,560 reflecting in the cash register while the canister had $3,323 instead of $20,404 also reflecting in the cash register.
It was also alleged that the sealed bundles Rashama was keeping in the vault were made up of $1 bills instead of $100, $50 and $20 notes.
The bank lost $164,389 and nothing was recovered.
